Igor’s are too as it happens, have been for a little while now as I checked before today’s game. Doesn’t reflect well on us.

Enciso's, on the other hand, is full of hundreds of comments which when translated all seem to be telling him he deserves better / to leave in January or July as he's not appreciated.

I disagree having seen it back. If he commits then Cunha just plays it to the player to his right for an even easier chance than the one he scored from. I actually think Igor defended it as well as could’ve been expected given all the factors. I don’t think Dunk would’ve defended it differently or any better (although I don’t think Dunk would’ve allowed Estupinian to be as high as he was). I certainly wouldn’t be apportioning Igor even 1% of the blame I’m laying at Weiffer’s door.
Will have to disagree then.
I see a player with time to take a free shot, because Igor had backed off too deep, he effectively made it easier. (It’s also easier to defend if he plays it right, because of JPvH).
The irony is that the shot wasn’t great, and I reckon Bart saves it if JPvH doesn’t deflect it…..
So frustrating…..

Because the defenders and centre midfielders should’ve all stayed back in defensive shape, once the ball was won. Elementary stuff in seeing a win out.

Bozza’s screenshot shows 6 Albion players in their half, just 2 Wolves outfield players.

WTF.
The team executed a very good high press and won the ball. That takes 4/5 all pressing the right angles and players.

It worked perfectly. We won the ball.

Those attacking players are then high up the pitch because they have pressed successfully.

The rest defence is in place not expecting the most simple of professional football moments to go awry.

After the ball is lost in the most Sunday League fashion possible, the defensive line responded near enough as best at it could. Igor has a moment where he could’ve got closer but he’s got two men running either side of him, he can’t win.

It’s all on Wieffer. Even he will he admit it’s his fault. Like anyone who’s played football would.

I can’t understand why Pervis is not coming under scrutiny on here. He was needlessly bombing forward and a simple pass left him hopelessly out of position and left Igor isolated. What was he thinking?

The furthest back back Albion players in your screenshot, long after the ball is won, are running a full pelt towards the goal. With their individual opponents not in sight.

Why? We already had more than enough attackers in the moment. They ran way past any players they’d been pressing beforehand.

It can only be that 6 Albion players had tunnel vision for the Wolves goal. Forgetting any thought of marking, defence, what ifs.

The vitriolic pile on by some on here is disappointing. Yes, it was a poor pass although it was the telegraphing of the pass rather than the execution that led to the Wolves defender being able to anticipate it and move forward to intercept it.
I think Igor’s defending following it was pretty good. He backed off which he probably had to. The shot would have been saved by Verbruggen if it hadn’t taken a large deflection.
However, we were naive in terms of having so many players forward at a time when we should have been managing the game/ result.
Yes, Weiffer made a mistake but I really don’t like the vitriol shown to one of our own players.

Oh come on.

We've often praised Estupinian because of his engine and ability to get forward late in the game. It's got us goals on the overload. I'll grant you it's wasted here but I guess he wasn't expecting Vincent Van cock up to pass it to the only black shirt in the vicinity when he could have opened up his own farm with the space he had to pass it into.

Trouble is, you’re still not answering the question related to your original point. What could the defenders have done better?

The players are high because of a tactical high press. The tactical high press doesn’t account for winning the ball then giving it away in the most embarrassing fashion.

I feel like I'm going to have nightmares about the 4 on 1 scenario tonight. Christ knows how weiffer is going to manage to get any sleep let alone have nightmares about it
Lolz. Excuse me if I have a MASSIVE sympathy pypass.

These fellas are paid an astronomical sum of money, more than most of us can ever imagine, to kick a ball around a piece of grass. If Weiffer can't find one of our players with a simple pass from that position then what the f**k has he done to earn his £80k a week?

Worse still, he has actually prevented the club going 3rd in the table, which historically would have been amazing for our club (our highest ever league position discounting early season placings).

If it doesn't work out for him here (and it seems unlikely it will), he'll probably move on to a team in a lesser league and have a moderately successful career while still raking the money in.

It hurts US much more than it hurts HIM.

All stayed back, including the DM’s. Every single one of them.

Agree, Carlos has come on leaps and bounds why? Because he is getting plenty of PL game time we can’t expect Wieffer to settle in and play superbly with a few minutes here and there in a new league. TB apparently has chased him for two seasons are we saying he’s wrong on this one? I will reserve judgement.
No he’s not wrong IMO nor are Wieffer’s stats from Feyenoord - but one of Wieffer’s weaknesses in his earlier career at Feyenoord imo was his dependence on the other half of the pivot, Kökçü (before he was sold) to direct play -and despite Wieffer’s overall spatial awareness and ability to read the game, he still needs development in understanding when to slow the game which seems to have been partly the issue today. Apart from that, he still has masses of potential, buckets of skill, off the ball, on the ball, in the air, on the ground, as a 6, as a progressive and defensive player as a single or as a double pivot.

I’m still team Wieffer.

(Oops realised I had several windows open answered this on the wrong thread)

There is no way in a million years Igor should be that far off, as soon as any forward enters the penalty area, you have to go towards them…..
Agree with the rest though……
Just watching MotD makes it feel so bad again…..

We had a 4v1 in the 93rd minute. Why should your left back hurtle into the action leaving a gaping hole behind him? Imagine the ball gets through to Ferguson and Sa makes a save. Pervis would still be the wrong side if Sa went long.

Weiffer has to shoulder a lot of the blame here but three attacking players made the same run and Pervis over committed leaving Igor exposed. That’s obvious.

So you’re saying a tactical fault - we shouldn’t have pressed?

Would’ve saved Wieffer his blushes if he had instructions to just sit in.
He shouldn’t need instructions, its professional discipline…..
The pass/telegraphing of it was shockingly bad, but as per my initial post, why was he even there, when surely all he was told to do was sit?

Hurzeler said on MOTD we need to be more professional.

Some of the team ignored his instructions/tactics for that moment. Once the press had won the ball, there was absolutely no reason for the likes of Estupinan to charge into an empty half, in the context of a narrow lead near the end. He and others f*cked up.

Not just Weiffer.

I’d imagine many pro sportsmen’s are.

I’ve no idea why footballers don’t restrict their Insta and X comments. They can still show off but do they really want to read Joe from Whitehawk’s opinion on their five minute sub appearance?
Many yes, most no — speaking anecdotally of course.
