I don’t disagree, but don’t underestimate the extent to which Democrats are in the pockets of their big donors too, all of which are, well, less than ideal. It’s not a black and white issue.
This seems like an attempt to add balance.

I remain interested though, what are the things about trump you like so much that they.. Er.. Trump the following.

- convictions
- attempts to unturrupt the transfer of power.
- the recorded willingness to destroy the constitution to get what he wants.
- several members of his previousgovernment coming out on record to describe how unsuitable for office he is.
- project 2025
- those stupid red hats.

I mean the list goes on but you get the gist.

For me any one of these would make him unsuitable for office.

Bidenomics:

US poised to outpace other advanced economies.

No doubt Donald will claim it's because the IMF expect him to win the election or some nonsense.

This is what I don’t get, they keep saying Trump is good for the economy. But the Dems record has been the best in the G7

How did it look under trump ?

Trump is clearly an absolute fruitcake but all this mass hysteria about the world being in danger etc if he gets in power I take with a pinch of salt. In his last presidency, apart from COVID, which was hardly his fault, the world didn't fall apart and it was a lot more peaceful than now around the globe.

As for Kamala, genuinely what has she ever done? Pretty much absolutely nothing. It was always a stupid candidate to put up against trump.

I see the bookies now have trump as very strong favourite.

Does project 2025 concern you?
The world didn't fall apart but he did attempt to block the transfer of power and continues to claim he was cheated. The hysteria may be over the top but again he was talked about using the military to defeat his opposition and to tear up the constitution if necessary.

It may be hysteria, but is it worth the risk?

I guess the answer to this is, to many people . . . yes.

What I don't get is the benefits that make it worth the risk?

The only “mass hysteria” is that which seems to be the psychosis gripping half the American electorate so manipulated and taken in by Trump’s false promises and narratives, they are completely blind as to what Trump presidency would actually mean.

I have said this time and time again that Trump is a Clear and Present danger not just to the US but the world - in Trump’s last presidency he set many things in motion that have directly led to some of the major conflict we see today:

  • He set back relations in the Middle East decades by cosying up to Netanyahu and presenting a Peace Plan in 2020 that annexed a third of the West Bank Palestinian territory to Israel which never would have been acceptable to Palestinians; de facto made Jerusalem (that held one of the most important holy sites in Islam ) the capital of Israel by relocating the American embassy from Tel Aviv; excluded for the first time in any peace plan ever, a commitment to a two state solution; ripped up the Nuclear Deal with Iran (which allowed the US/UN teams to effectively monitor Iran’s nuclear enrichment programme; reimposed very tough sanctions instead which severely set back relations between the West and Iran.

  • Colluded with Russia over Ukraine - blocked military aid funding for Ukraine in an effort to coerce Ukraine into digging up dirt on Biden in the 2020 election; His campaign manager, Paul Manifort and his Lawyer , Rudy Guiliani. worked for years to undermine Ukraine’s independence in the lead up to the annexation of Crimea by working with Russian oligarchs and alleged Russian spies. Cosied up to Putin and shared sensitive information with Russia, opening up the backdoors for Russian interference in the 2016 and 2020 election.

  • Set back the global efforts to combat climate change by withdrawing the US from the Paris Agreement, the legally binding Treaty on Climate Change.

  • Undermined our own security in the UK and Europe by signalling to Russia that the US would not protect NATO members who weren’t spending enough on defence - such rhetoric emboldening Russia to weaponise the nuclear deterrent card over Ukraine.

  • Started a trade war in 2017 with China that lasted throughout his presidency pushing China into forging closer economic ties with Russia - Project 2025 will expand import tariffs and likely to start a new trade war with China that will impact the global economy which many see as counterproductive in US relations with China as was his racist rhetoric toward China over Covid and withdrawing the US from WHO because of China’s influence.

Anyone that thinks the world would be a safer place under Trump needs to give their head a wobble - it will definitely not be for Ukrainians, Palestinians or Europeans nor ultimately Israelis, just for starters and certainly not for American people who are sleep-walking toward an irreparable breakdown of law and order with it’s very institutions under threat of becoming completely delegitimised - a broken and unstable America is threat to both the world economy and world peace.

As for Kamala being a “stupid candidate” to put up against Trump, you seem to forget that Biden was the candidate - by the time he stepped aside and endorsed Harris, the Primaries were over - the only person who could easily step up was Harris who was already on the ticket as his Vice President and the campaign funds could just be transferred to her - also anyone who could have effectively challenged her for the top of the ticket had neither majority of the Party behind them nor were not well known enough nationally to mount a campaign against Trump.

And a much better performance than stopping by a gas station and buying Doritos (only took 4 takes).

which in turn led to this mockery of holy communion…how to win the catholic vote, eh?

They are just campaign events, I don’t get the hysteria behind everyone’s reactions.

Your arguments can't even win anyone on this message board.

Is anyone supporting Trump because of what Las Vegassed has said in this thread?

Betting markets moving a bit towards Trump

Heard Jon Sopel last night on a podcast. He feels there's a possibility the polls are underestimating the motivation of young Democrats to stop Trump, like they underestimated the rust belt / anti Hilary vote in 2016

I hope he's right and people get shit scared and get out there. 2 weeks to save what remains of US democracy

I missed the similar letter he published, when Nigel Farage and Liz Truss popped across to lend their support to his campaign.

(Or when he himself presumed to get involved in the London Mayoral Election).

100 unpaid volunteers going door knocking. What a major threat to the Republicans!

In the meantime

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur backing Trump, wrote on X, the social media platform he owns: “This is illegal” – only to delete the post after a community note pointed out there is no law preventing foreigners from participating in unpaid door-knocking

Yes, but we know that's all left wing lies and false information so we've got to vote for Mr. Trump to save the world and make America great again - he's the only one telling the truth, all the rest are liars ..........................

God bless save America,

I suppose the major question is whether Liz Truss offering her support can be seen as helping his campaign

Agree. They've done nothing wrong but it's still highly embarrassing coming so close to the election.

In two weeks time, KS may have to pick up the phone and congratulate President-elect Trump......
