He was just desperate for a left back and has an unconscious bias towards Palace players. Mitchell's okay at left back, but he's not a wing back, which is what he's currently being asked to do.

Was thinking maybe we should take that Eze on as an impact sub for half a dozen games a season but not sure it’s worth the gamble on lower league players.

I imagine the plonkers reading this from up the 23 are outraged; a bit like Jamie Carragher not having him in England's starting 11.
Anyway. His height and heading limitations are a problem; being world class at short passes is not enough. No big clubs have bid, and money loose Chelsea did not want to match any bid Newcastle made. Funny that. He is better than that lot but Newcastle/Villa etc is his highest level.
He would be fine in our squad.

Wouldn’t get in ahead of Dunk and Van Hecke, but would ahead of Igor or Webster. Their second best player would be on our bench.
