All good points - although I can't remember? Does/did he get on with his brother? My sister and I have never really got on and I only ever mention her if pressed on the subject OR talking about estranged family members...Whilst you’re obviously entirely right, it could - generously - be explained by his lack of social skills and anxiety. I don’t think it’s controversial to say as per my review in the OP that the character is strongly hinted as being neurodivergent; perhaps he simply doesn’t have that facility. He’s shown throughout to be a terrible liar. Always annoys me in anything when characters are lying come to think of it, acting all suspicious and very clearly lying. In real life any socially aware person would pick it up instantly.
If you want to talk plot holes, the massive one obviously is that James, his brother, apparently never told any of his colleagues that he had an identical twin. If they had known that, he wouldn’t have got past the first five minutes when he was acting completely out of character.
As for the neurodiversity, agree, it does appear that way. One of my sons in particular is a great demonstrator of such things.
