Five over 21 players plus one over 21 goalkeeper can play in the U21 matches, because them's the rules.

They’re allowed over aged players with certain criteria (can’t remember them off top of head) but it’ll be cos Solly hasn’t been in our matchday squad for ages
A limited number of over-age players is permitted. I think the numbers vary for different competitions too, but I couldn't quote the exact numbers. It's not new - Crofty used to play as player coach, and so did his predecessor (whose name I can't remember).

Crofts didn't have a predecessor - he was the predecessor to Gary Dicker.
Was he? I could have sworn Gary Dicker did it first! Oh well.
