Anyone seen Simmonds play this season? There was a fair bit of hype around his ability at such a young age. Wondered how he’s progressing…

I’m pretty certain they don’t count (or they didn’t at least) because PL2 is not considered a senior tournament.
I know we are going back a few seasons but Anders Dreyer played a couple of PL2 games before going on loan to Heerenveen. We then recalled him in January and loaned him out to Midtjylland for the second half of the season. Obviously this wouldn’t be possible If the PL2 competition counted towards the 3+2 rule.
Which made the fact the EFL trophy games were considered senior appearances for the academy teams even more baffling. At least that’s been changed now.

Let’s have some positives for Palace here. These stats are very similar to their 1st team’s stats against Liverpool in the 1st half today. That should mean their U21s players will know ‘the system’ and ‘the style’ if they are to step up into the 1st team.
