I used the phrase “super helpful” (a phrase that jars with me) because I heard the guy in front of me checking out use it. It sums up the clientele. I thought that at least would chime as these places are always the owner’s fault and never the people pulling double shifts on minimum wages.

There's also an Amsterdam hotel with astonishing photos of mice and cockroaches. But we didn't stay there.

The manager, Iva, trots out the same bemused apology to the reviews....but clearly has no intention of talking to the staff. It's hilarious when she says ' did you talk to the waiter about this?' when it's the waiter that's the problem

I like Iva - it's the blindness of the overall tone of the reviews I admire. Such as saying to one person that it was the first she'd heard of it, and to another that 'customer service issues are not something we know about' - when she must have just read dozens of poor customer service reviews!

Stop being negative Nigels NSC and instead focus on good things and positive reviews. Nothing can compare to Katie and Pete’s landmark album which is up there with seeing the first moon landing on a black and white TV at school and Robbie Reinelt’s equaliser at Hereford in terms of incredible memories

As a slight aside I realised my star rating system was not the same as others so I've tried to change it. If everything was ok and how I expected it I'd give three stars. A bit better, four. A bit worse, two. Very rarely gave one or five stars as it would have to be exceptional (at either extreme).

However I realised that firstly that's not how most people seem to do it, and secondly it's not what establishments expect. The rule seems to be that you start with five stars and then knock them off if they disappoint. I apologise to all those perfectly fine places that only got a three-star rating.

HATE Prague. My experience was full of this, not quite as extreme, but an openly hostile city. Compare and contrast Tallinn (expense but beautiful and friendly) or Budapest (cheap and again really nice overall).

Again, I’ve found the Czech’s in Prague openly hostile. It’s one place I’d never go back to - along with Paris.

I can understand mistrust of the British due to the stag parties etc, but a couple on a weekend break should be their bread and butter. Felt like everyone was on a shake down

Highly recommend Budapest - some gorgeous sights and things to do. Pay in Forints for maximum value. Can easily do a full weekend in a 4* hotel with flights and spending money for £250-£300 a head, with nice meals out and drinks etc

It's a shame that the old Trip Advisor reviews for the Crown inn at Lewes are no longer available. There were some reviews saying how wonderful it was, all from people with single place reviews and no doubt either accounts set up by the managers and/or friends.

Then you had the two main groups of people. Those who stayed there and said how bad the place was - unfriendly, dirty, etc and those who booked only to turn up and find that their booking had been cancelled. Within those two groups the feedback was brutal and a mixture of highly entertaining but also very sad where people had booked to stay to attend weddings nearby and found they had nowhere to stay.

Did the Munich Christmas Market many years ago - great location in front of the Rathaus (city hall) on Marianplatz. We were lucky that it had just snowed, so we were crunching through fresh snow, drinking mulled wine and eating hot (roasted) peanuts to keep warm.

That sounds really nice! Disagree re: Prague, but would love to do what you described. Seems everything fell into place (pun not intended) for you

We didn’t see snow, but did in Oslo’s xmas market (during the pandemic). That was fantastic, but -10c!
