I think the ECB will definitely want Archer to play: he wants to play test cricket, England want him to play test cricket but as he hasn't played a FC for a few years, the ECB will need to check his fitness.

Robinson will clearly play the whole season, he's lost his central contract and he's way behind Wood, Woakes, Atkinson, Stone, Potts, Hull and Archer (?) in the pecking order.

I don't think we're that far short of being a decent Div 1 side. Archer, Robbo, Seales and Carson is a class attack and Haines/Hughes a solid opening pair. Simpson won't have a such a good season this time round but he's a fine Div 1 player. The middle order looks worrying though, unless Coles really jumps up a class.

We may have Archer for 1-2 games and then Seales for 6 or so.

McAndrew is a very good bowler but not the same class as Seales.

I would be a bit worried if we were relying on Robbo, McAndrew, Crocombe/Hunt and Lamb/FHP/Clark as the seam bowlers.

Crocombe is apparently going into the Lions squad this winter so maybe he can get some good coaching there.

BUT…the England setup want Jofra playing tests next season. Could we see him for a game or two at the start of the season?

As for Ollie, I think his ship has sailed. I don’t know what happened but it feels like the trust has gone, and that’s tough to come back from. My suspicion is he’s now a long way down the pecking order.
Yes, think Ollie's had his day for England. I heard that the set up were unhappy about some of the "stories" he told on his podcast about what it's like playing for England. I know that he had to take at least one episode down (for at least some heaving editing) because of his tone-deaf narrative.

Frankly, he's not good enough to also be a problem for the regime.

I'll be amazed if any of those replacing him match his Test average of under 23. Also you should hear Andy Zaltzman's stats on Robbo...

England are a worse team without IMO
Might be but it’s the sum of the parts and if Robbo is a disruptive influence, esp on tour he won’t be welcome.

Anyway he seems to be settled at Sussex so let’s keep him.

Yorkshire's Jafer Chohan has been selected in the England ODI team.

That's a shoo in for an unplayable delivery !

In fairness, Crocombe improved a lot during the course of the season. He is getting quicker, varies his deliveries and is becoming more consistent - a stint with the Lions will either make him or break him.

Agree he’s improved a lot. But a lions tour making or breaking him?
If he keeps going how he is at Sussex, he’ll be an asset even if he doesnt get too many first team opportunities on the lions tour.

Crocombe did well towards the end of the season and clearly he can bowl fast, BUT anecdotally most of his wickets have been lower order batters in Div 2. We need a strike bowler to help nos 1 and 2 take top order wickets

As predicted, Crocombe is in the Lions squad, as is Coles. Is there some issue with Jack Carson though? He's had a good season: 50 wickets and has biffed a few runs too and yet he's not selected for any team. Chohan (who's not played any FC matches) is in the squad, Mousley, another off-spinner, has taken just eight FC wickets.

Carson's clearly not favoured by the ECB; is he another Robbo?

I don’t think Salisbury likes him😉🏏

Baffling. Unless he did something to upset them on last year’s tour. He didn’t do very well on that tour, but this season he‘s been a revelation.

He's toured with the Lions a couple of times, they might just think that they'll get more out of taking a couple of younger players.

Maybe doesn't fit in with the notably tall and/or quick through the air mould of spinner they seem to be leaning towards for the test team.

And let's not forget that England like players with mediocre statistics who have 'something about them'

I suggested making or breaking because the coaching of pace bowlers at national level seems to be targeted at producing a specific and standardised type of bowler which may involve eliminating the very features that have led to his early success…they also have to “fit in” ….. Chris Woakes is the obvious template they are working from.
