R2 today on the site in JV show but Tesco (who want to trade on Sunday) v Isle of Lewis, we are able to do/get everything done during the week and rather like the do nothing Sunday approach. Yet we are old school as in Boxing Day unless Oxford St, Stratford etc trading and even that's questionable IMHO so how do others NSC user's feel is it 24/7-365 or step back ?

Allow shops to open on Sunday like every other day of the week

Tesco has been trading on Sunday in Faversham for at least 10 years. I presume everything shuts up your way because there is no demand.

I presume R2 is discussing allowing longer opening hours (I think most large scale 'trading' has to stop at 4.00 pm on Sunday, albeit smaller convenience stores stay open later).

Oh, and I don't think any societal rules should be set for religious reasons. If Christians don't want to go shopping on Sunday, and Jews don't want to go shopping on Saturday, they are free to choose. On the other hand, requests to have a porno shop or a Wetherspoons open 24/7 in a residential neighborhood can be dealt with using other laws (nuisance etc.).

Sunday trading laws are not in force in Scotland, shops could (if they chose) be open 24/7

Germany does not allow big shops and stores to open on Sunday. I like it, I like it a lot. Makes Sundays a very chilled day.

I'm probably being facetious.

Always weirds me out a little bit any time I'm north of the border and I can go to a big supermarket late on a Sunday and pay reasonable prices for stuff rather than inflated prices in convenience shops.

Most stuff are open here on Sundays. Due to our good relations with Satan, I believe.

I suspect that maybe the Isle of Lewis maybe one of those places where the Sabbath is still the Sabbath, and nothing opens (well, maybe the pub, since the Scottish licensing were relaxed 40 odd years ago - and the kirk!).
