I've recently returned to golf after a near 20 year break. Just joined my local(ish) club etc. Anyway I've seen a few ads for personal golf insurance, this wasn't a thing I was aware of last time I played. Is it required now? I'd of thought/hoped that each club has 3rd party PL insurance anyway?

Not sure if we can contact Jamie, but he's probably the best person to ask about NSC Gold.
Might be a bit difficult considering he passed away.

Shit I opened this thread thinking it was about prospecting…… Panning by the Colorado river or up the Klondike.

It's not legally required. Although it's possible certain courses in close proximity to houses etc. may require it to play them, but it's not something I've heard of - not that I get to play much gold these days!

As with all non-mandatory insurance, you're statistically better off saving the money you'd have spent on premiums and using that to pay any costs.

If the Club you've joined is affiliated to England Golf (the majority are) and the EGU levy is included in your Membership Fees (again it should be) then since 2019, England Golf has a policy for Public Liability that covers all it's members:

If you aren't a member of an Affiliated Club or just an occasional golfer, then a lot of Household Insurance policies include Public Liability, but some of the cheaper ones specifically exclude cover for golf, so always best to check.

There are stand alone Golf Insurance Policies that offer "rinky dinks" like Hole in One cover for your bar bill, but they are normally expensive for what they are, especially if you already have PL under your Household Insurance or you already have the England Golf cover.

Re your comment re non-mandatory insurance, the problem is the damage you can do to another person with a golf ball. Granted statistically it's a one in multi million risk, but if you injure somebody, then it's going to be very expensive depending on the bodily injury sustained - it's all about your own individual attitude to risk.

I agree spending £50 on a warranty insurance for a £200 fridge isn't worth the money, but a fridge is never going to cost you thousands of pounds on a potential claim.....

Thanks for the golf related replies!! All golden to me.
I'm not one to take out extra insurance/warranty on things, and I defo don't need hole in one cover!!!! I'll check the club's policy and move on.

Is this for golfers in Golders Green or does it apply more widely?

Please delete it then as it's pointless now, I was hoping someone might be able to help with my actual question, I'll go find a golf board.
