[Football] "We are suffering"

Is there a more annoying or disrespectful term in modern football than this?
To hear multi-millionaire, cosetted, ego-manic, mercenaries like Arteta, Lopeteggi or Ferdandes using this phrase really boils mine. This is not a foreign language issue either because Dyche and Howe go there too. These guys genuinely don't know the meaning of the words. Stop it. I'd like someone in the media to put a stop to this bollocks.

Neither was RDZ... and virtually everyone else also use it.

Think it came with the invasion of Spaniards but no idea why. Maybe its used more loosely there.

If you listen to any 5 Live match commentary you'd think a goal was about to be scored every few minutes.

I totally agree. Suffer has a variety of strengths. At the lesser end, 'we had to suffer Potter's analysis' and at the greater 'there was great suffering in the war'. And everything in between is also correct. This thread is full of grumpy old men.

It literally means to experience something bad or unpleasant. I would consider experiencing injuries as unpleasant or bad
