Another for the “coincidences” thread - I saw a clip of her being funny on the Graham Norton show on YouTube yesterday and looked up her age on Wikipedia and to see what she was up to lately. Now the sad news today

A wonderful actress, who played a wide variety of roles. 89 is a good age, and she made the best use of her talent, starting with the Life of Miss Jean Brodie. The creme de la creme.

For the last several years she lived somewhere around Pulborough / West Chiltington - she was a regular at the farm shop there.

Oh no

One of my absolute favourite actresses and an incredible ability to convey sardonic wit.

From the Prime of Ms Jean Brodie to Tea with Mussolini to Downtown Abbey - there was no one who could play cantankerous and indignant like Dame Maggie Smith.

And brilliant in Lady in the Van

An absolute icon of the stage and film.
