Your memory is better than mine sir.
You've just depressed me even more. With so many skilfull players, why are they all so utterly CACK at free kicks ? Don't even get me started on the corners.

Dead ball ? Dead loss. We must be the worst.

I have to say, Pascal could hit a corner for years and backed up with Solly, I think Barco is a quite exceptional corner taker and WBG wasn't bad, but given they've gone (for other reasons), I'm struggling with Pervis being our best.

Danny should take free kicks but I'm struggling with corners. It obviously doesn't help when Pervis is tasked with hitting near post corners, every single time, despite the fact that not one got the flick on yesterday. I remember Solly suffering from the same. Maybe a bit of variation

Actually, taking last years free kick goals in the EPL (11 in total), a team has scored 0.014 goals per game from free-kicks. So we are bang average. We are seeing exactly the number you would expect.
I'd prefer it if you refrained from clouding this thread with spurious facts.

I stand by my initial prognosis. 4 goals in over seven years is DISGUSTING.

There's a reason. They are really difficult. Ward Prowse has insane technique, a true specialist and ONLY has 17 in 383 pl games

So maybe 1 every 22 games. 0.045

The mods should change it to "AVERAGE stat". You can keep the capitals for SENSATIONALIST purposes.

Omg the third free-kick will shock you.
You WON'T BELIEVE what the free kick LOOKS LIKE NOW

Danny Welbeck's free kick strike was the FOURTH direct free kick we have scored in the PL. That's 7+ years, 271 games, 0.014 free kick goals per game.

Fair play to Welbz, he went close against Ipswich with one as well last week, so hopefully this could be a useful new string to his bow in the autumn of his career (it was his first ever). But as for BHA - jees. One of the finest training complexes in the country, and we can't even practice our way to so much as a goal a season when there's a wall lined up. Gross, Dunk (yes) and MacAllister are the only others to have found the net from a free kick in the last 7+ seasons.

It would appear not many of our squad are hanging back to practice this particular art. I have no idea why I get excited when we get a free kick in a "threatening" position, but I am now officially parking any anticipation I may have had, and will likely slope off to get a pie until the whole faff has burnt its way out into the usual goal kick.

Here's how other teams have done in that time. According to the PL website Danny Welbeck's was our 5th free kick, not the 4th (I know, I know, hard to imagine the Daily Mail don't have their facts right).

Direct Free Kicks scored from 17-18 to present (Danny's is the only one so far this season)

This doesn't take into account how many seasons a team has been in the PL, can't be bothered to work that out. (maybe someone else will?!)

Southampton 16
Man City 14
Leicester 9
Arsenal 8
Crystal Palace 8
Chelsea 7
Liverpool 7
Newcastle 6
Brighton 5
Aston Villa 4
Bournemouth 4
Brentford 4
Man Utd 4
Everton 3
Leeds 3
Burnley 2
Fulham 2
Tottenham 2
Wolves 2
Huddersfield 1
Luton 1
West Brom 1

I'm not saying its easy. But it is what they do for a living.

The goal is MASSIVE. Players are shockingly bad at kicking the ball into it unchallenged. If I did nothing else all week, I'd be brilliant at it. So would you.

Less time at the tattoo parlour, never mind sodding off at 11am - more time on the training pitch with those wire-frame manwalls.

Weird how we all get excited by a free-kick on the edge of the box when there's a 0.0001% chance of scoring from it unless the keeper has a howler :)

Yup.
Being as we've just bagged one, the next goal from a free kick will be due in 68 games time. So around April 2026.
