Me and my son went to the Top House pub in Burgess Hill to watch the Arsenal game earlier this month.

Didn’t even occur to me (or my son who drove over in his own car too) that you had to pay to park in the pub car park.

First I heard of it was when 2 parking fines dropped through the letterbox, each for a £100 (reduced to £60 if I pay within 2 weeks).

Absolute daylight robbery.

It’s a great pub for watching the football but watch out if you park there.

Have you checked whether you don’t pay the fine if you use the pub. I had similar with a pub restaurant and when I produced the credit card receipt they cancelled the parking ticket.

Edit just seen @Terry Butcher Tribute Act response, so it appears not!

Was there a machine to enter your car reg when you went in? The Sportsman at Withdean has.
Maybe ring the pub to explain, and see if they’ll cancel the ticket as you were a customer?

It's not the pub car park, even though it's next to it. The Railway is the same. All rather unfortunate
Haven’t been there recently but assumed all the land to the side was theirs?

The pub will definitely be able to cancel this for you.
I imagine it’s to stop people parking for Burgess Hill Station. If you can provide evidence, maybe some receipts from contactless payment on your phone of some drinks etc during the timeframe of the game, they will be kind enough to cancel for you out of goodwill. Less hassle this way.

presumably the pub has a problem with people parking there for the flats or shops. could contact them about resolving it?

A building supplies company left 2 huge bags of Cement and Aggregate outside our house a couple of weeks ago, that we hadn't ordered. It was there until the next day when they returned and dropped it on the other side of the road outside the house it was for.
Saturday morning in the post we recieved a £70 fine for taking up the space outside our house without booking a restricted parking bay!!
We have informed them that we had no involvement in it being left there, but this isour local council. F*cking Cowboys!!

I've parked there twice early last month and put reg in machine in pub but still got two fines. I went in with both letters and pub cleared tickets for me and that was without any food or drink receipts. If you are not a regular maybe take a receipt or if not a bank statement if you paid by card and I'm almost certain the staff or management will clear it for you.

My Niece is a manager there. Have messaged her to see if the pub can help and will let you know what she says (if she replies)

For years Sportsman car park was free and many used it to get Seagull Travel bus. Now charge after 3 hours and several have got tickets parking for football. Now often nearly empty and people are parking on streets.

Lady Seagull will tell him the same thing as at least two others have on this thread.
I don’t follow? He was a customer of the pub which he said. Doesn’t mean he can’t get off the fine with help does it? Can take it up with the parking company or POPLA - loads of options to try yet. Don’t pay it.

Thank you! That’s kind of you.

If you don’t hear from her, I’ll still go ahead and email them tomorrow!
