Danny Welbeck's free kick strike was the FOURTH direct free kick we have scored in the PL. That's 7+ years, 271 games, 0.014 free kick goals per game.

Fair play to Welbz, he went close against Ipswich with one as well last week, so hopefully this could be a useful new string to his bow in the autumn of his career (it was his first ever). But as for BHA - jees. One of the finest training complexes in the country, and we can't even practice our way to so much as a goal a season when there's a wall lined up. Gross, Dunk (yes) and MacAllister are the only others to have found the net from a free kick in the last 7+ seasons.

It would appear not many of our squad are hanging back to practice this particular art. I have no idea why I get excited when we get a free kick in a "threatening" position, but I am now officially parking any anticipation I may have had, and will likely slope off to get a pie until the whole faff has burnt its way out into the usual goal kick.

So Welbeck on Sunday, assume we are including Dunk's at Liverpool, then Mac Allister against Leicester, so who was the scorer of the 4th one?

Worse is that three of those free kicks were by errors by the goalkeeper...

Gross against Everton - went through Pickfords hands pretty much, and wasn't in the corner
Dunk against Liverpool - Quick thinking yes, but Allison should never have let it happen
Welbeck against Forest - Wasn't in the corner and Sels should have got to it, but bad positioning and didn't move

Only Mac Allisters against Leicester was in the corner (and wasn't even his best "goal" in that game!)

How many have we conceded in that time?

Your memory is better than mine sir.
You've just depressed me even more. With so many skilfull players, why are they all so utterly CACK at free kicks ? Don't even get me started on the corners.

Dead ball ? Dead loss. We must be the worst.

That's not a disgraceful stat. It simply shows that more goals are scored by crossing or build up play than direct shots

Not sure why it's a DISGRACEFUL stat? Its one aspect of the game. Sounds like it's a bit of a dying art in general in the Premier league, looking at an article on their website.
We have scored enough goals by other means during this period to maintain our Premier league status, don't really care what those means are.

Actually, taking last years free kick goals in the EPL (11 in total), a team has scored 0.014 goals per game from free-kicks. So we are bang average. We are seeing exactly the number you would expect.
