[Music] London Stadium Gigs - Any tips?

For those who've seen a gig there, any advice on what block of seating is any good for and end stage set up? Obviously, there are online plans but they can be misleading.

Similarly, what's the getaway like post gig? Gigs at the O2 have always been a bit tight but I'm wondering whether getting back to Victoria for that 00.02 back to Eastbourne may be impossible. Leaving gig early is not an option!

Can't answer any specifics as to what seating block is best but my experience from getting away from seeing the Foo Fighters there earlier this year was horrific.

They use stop and go boards to keep you near the stadium and keep the surrounding areas a bit clearer and stop over crowding at the various transport hubs. It took nearly an hour to actually get to a station, we went for Stratford International to get a high speed to St. Pancras, and then get a Thameslink down to Brighton.

This wasn't our first plan, as we'd changed plans it cost us a couple of minutes which meant we missed a train the St. Pancras, the one after that was then late, by the time we got to St. Pancras the last two Thameslink services to Brighton were cancelled due to lack of drivers and we ended up getting on a bus that left St. Pancras at 0025 and it didn't get in to Brighton until gone 0430.

My advice would be Elizabeth Line in to Central London and change there, if the Thameslink are running change at Farringdon to get down to Croydon/Gatwick/Haywards Heath and pick up the Eastbourne from there. Others may suggest different but the best advice I can give is have a plan and stick to it.

Or go to Highbury and Islington on the Victoria line then go on the overland to Hackney Wick and walk, 10-15mins. There's a few decent bars en route near the canal.

After a concert at the O2 there will be a ginormous managed queue to get into the underground station. Walk past the Underground to the bus station, go in there then straight into the underground. That should improve your chances of catching the train back to Sussex

Ah yes. The Run For Your Lives Tour, this will be great fun. Just seen it’s a Saturday night. My advice would be to book a cheap hotel and make a night/weekend of it. There’s some excellent bars along the canal nearby, or you could head back into town. Saves the worry of last trains to Brighton etc.

I read about Nicko and how he’s had to change some of his drumming due to his stroke. He’s quite a trooper to be carrying on. Pun obviously intended.

That's the obvious option but Mrs Metal is already querying the outlay particularly since all the hotels have cottoned on and bumped prices up. I quite fancied a spiritual trip to the Cart and Horses pub where it all began for them.

Indeed all the drummers have noticed how he has simplified many parts. Thankfully most punters like me wouldn't notice. Nicko, Dave and Janick I think may be seriously thinking of retirement whilst Bruce, Steve and Adrian all have their own little solo projects to keep them ticking over without the demands of the Maiden schedule.

We stayed at a pub b&b just north of the stadium when seeing the Foo Fighters there a few months ago and got an Uber to the Craft brewery by the canal.
Had a few beers along the canal heading towards the stadium before the gig and headed back out that way afterwards rather than Stratford. So you could go Hackney Wick afterwards.

Worth looking at Premier Inn. We stayed up at the one by Blackfriars after a gig at the O2 in June and it was only £89 for a plus room. Means you don’t have that rush and have several options for getting back As it isn’t far from central or district lines.

£168 for 28 June 2025! :(

I think they've sussed that a lot of old rockers are in town!

£123 if you book and pay in advance for a Premier Inn in Woolwich, much easier to get there after the gig than stress about getting back to the south coast.
