He'd be an outstanding player at Champ level or for a decent Belgian, Dutch, Scottish team etc. Bit more time, more space, could imagine him doing an O'Reilly etc. Simply isn't at our level sadly.
The way I would look at this is that he's missed a full year and a half through injury and was heavily managed for 6 months after that.

That's the whole age 22 to 24 development time lost.

He can still make up for this lost time if he stays fit and starts getting games. But while his development years were lost, ours weren't. There is no prospect of Jakub getting the games he needs here now and should have been moved on in the summer and will be in winter.

But I don't think this means he was a failed signing. At age of 21, there was every reason to think his development curve would have led to him being a top half PL midfielder and first choice CM for Poland by now. It just didn't work out.

I'm not even sure he'll play another Carabao Cup game. Milner will likely slot in ahead of him. Yasin's development is on the charge. O'Reilly will be back if we make the latter stages. Wieffer is getting up to speed and Hinsh might find himself free to slot into midfield.

I think we've likely seen the last of Moder.

Yep agree with all of this.

Love the bloke and wish it was different, but it's not.
He needs to be playing for a club that need him.
We don't.

Moder looked a good player pre injury. He'll need a few months of decent game time before that can be decided.

He's a very different profile to the other midfield options. Tall, quick and physical. Useful for certain opposition. Opponents like Villa.

94 games is a hell of a lot of football to miss. He might never fully recover. But I'd give him the season before deciding to sell next summer.

But I agree that Moder is, I think, 8th choice midfielder once Gomez arrives, (and i'm not sure that many other teams in the PL have an 8th choice CM as good as Moder) a move in January seems sensible

EDIT : I should add. Given the uncontrolled nature of last nights performance, I think you could find unflattering clips of all our players out there. The structure clearly looked disorganised. We're using this tournament to get players match fit it seems

Indeed - early on there was a moment whjere mOder had to cover Hinshelwood out of position, and skilfully jockeyed their winger and tackled him to prevent a promising attack.

Wolves first goal was a whole heap of terrible by our entire defence.

I haven't seen a worse goal against us, for many a year.

He's been in and around the first team since October/November, so that's already almost a year.

Only played his first senior game in 575 games back on the 25th of November. His start last night was his first proper club game since the 19th of May.

It will take a consistent run of games for him to regain confidence and full match sharpness.

He was fine lat night. 28/32 passes completed and 5/9 ground duels won to go with his 4 tackles. An important recovery run and tackle saved Hinshelwood.

Yes, a neat and tidy player who is technically very good but doesn't ever really hurt the opposition. He may come good and I reckon FH wants to find out if he will after injury, but he's in last chance saloon by my reckoning. If he isn't looking better than average by Christmas, I wouldn't mind betting he'll be sold to a relegation struggler in the January window.
With his contract running out next summer, you won't get a lot of money from that bet.

I really struggle to see the club or Moder himself being interested in that contract getting extended.

The scenario where we "give him a decent run of games" (as some suggest) in the first place looks incredibly unlikely in the first place, and when you add that he also needs to perform at "we want to have this guy around for many more years"-level, it borders on the impossible.

He was fine last night, a few players had "moments" they would rather forget, Webster had a couple, Steele had a big one, Adingra had one, Weiffer had one, and other players too.

He's got nine months left on his contract (which surely won't be extended?) so won't fetch much for him in January or he'll leave for free in the Summer.

He may not get it but I’d like to see him have a run of games before writing him off. I see plenty are pointing the finger at him for the first Wolves goal but ignoring Hinshelwood stuck in nowhere land and not running that hard to cover players either side of him :shrug:

He is the new Ashley Barnes for quite a few on here.

He has not played enough consecutive games since injury to write him off as “Championship level” imo

He also chased back to stop a dangerous break in the first half and was moving twice as fast as the forward to be able to do it but we’ll ignore that :smile:

None of them would have played him if he didn't do the job out of lazyness. He worked hard. Always.

I think they felt he doesn't read the game well enough to play in a central position where you need to know what you're doing.

Against Wolves he did the job sometimes and sometimes not. Not deliberate for sure but something happens in the back of your head if you go into a game thinking "well, I'm probably to be here for another three years so I better win a place in the starting eleven" compared to "I'm in the last year of my contract which is exceptionelly unlikely to get extended". Its natural to lose a little focus.

Being honest it feels like Moder is only with us to make up the numbers in the squad in case of injuries and will then be moving on. He did nothing exceptional last season when he had an opportunity and not looking any better now. Cant see him getting anywhere near a prem game starting 11 unless we have a real crisis.

I thought he was great for 20 mins, but thereafter had literally no positional discipline which is one of the main reasons Wolves were beginning to get into the game. He literally chased everything, and left us completely exposed.

He is an okay player, and Leicester would have been a great move.

I agree better than championship, but lower prem, so not quite good enough.

I think you nailed it. Nothing to do with laziness or attitude. Webster was anticipating that Moder had the underlapping Doherty covered and did not intercept. Belaba or Wieffer would have caught the Wolf but Moder seemed confused as to what he was doing and where he should run. Having not picked up his man, his block was also woeful.

In his last year with us, Hürzeler needs to use him on the flanks or further forward. But once we have Gruda, O’Riley and Gomez in the squad, I think Moder will really struggle for minutes. Perhaps we can find him a new home in January?

True - he has improved immeasurably, but he was really very poor, and his errors continued even in the beginning of last season, but the Forest game was massive for him, and he is one of our best defenders. So yes, completely wrong. 😃

Moder wasn’t that good before his injury, poor finisher despite gttng in good positions, now he’s probably trying too hard… but not for me….

The first thing that goes wrong is the high press - it was dysfunctional and left us outnumbered.

Hinshelwood ends up in a 2v1 so has no choice but to ‘jockey’ the situation until the player carrying the ball releases it - until then, there is really nothing he can do to actively defuse the attack, he has to be conservative. At this point, Moder has to track the man who has just released the ball and that is what Hinshelwood (or any other right back) would be expecting their defensive midfielder to do.

I think Jack could probably have got a little bit tighter to the winger once he received the ball, but even if he did, the winger would have still found his free man easily because Moder was the one in No Man’s Land.

Hinshelwood could’ve done a little bit better but if we’re laying blame for that goal I’d say it’s about 30% poorly timed and executed press from the front players, 60% Moder’s lack of tracking, 10% Hinshelwood not getting out to the winger quicker once he had the ball.

True, I am not trying to move blame from Moder to Hinshelwood just saying that goal was not just down to Moder as a few have alluded to. There were errors going on all over the pitch most of the second half and that one at the end of the first and just singling out Moder as “not good enough” annoys me :shrug:

The game management by the whole team at the end of both halves was absolute shite too :smile:

So he was given time and improved, I think Moder would too but I think he is now so far down the pecking order that he won’t get it. I’ll be interested to watch his progress when he’s shipped out, which is I accept the most likely end result

He very obviously needed the game on Wednesday. His match fitness just isn't where it should be right now. This may not make a difference to whether we keep him or not, but I hope he at least gets the opportunity to show the manager what he is capable of.

I have been a little surprised this week how much importance people are placing on the Cowabunga Cup. You win you get through it doesn't have to be pretty or season defining.
