Well, our luck continues.

Positives:
We got through

Baleba and Adingra were excellent

Big impact from Wieffer off the bench, really stopped the rot

Hinshelwood was much better in the second half

Ferdi goal

Fergie looked decent and came through unscathed

Negatives
That's really exposed how f***ed we are if Dunk or JP get injured/banned.

Pretty shocking performances from Minteh and Enciso. The former trying too much, the latter not enough.

Steele having a good game then needlessly putting us under pressure with that total brainfart.

Some of the players looked way too casual at 2-0 and it could've cost us the game. Mentality issues? Lack of a proper leader on the pitch to keep them going?

The total loss of control after cruising for the first half an hour. Utterly baffling. So many misplaced passes and errors. Lots of work to be done.

Harsh on Webster.

Webster is a decent back up centre half.

I do think it's probably time to replace Steele as our number 2 though.
Steele is fine as a number 2 keeper playing early round cup games and being able to a job on the rare occasions that the first-choice keeper is unavailable. He’s definitely not good enough to even think about as a regular in the PL and rotating with Verbruggen though.

At least Minteh is working hard, that’s the bare minimum. Enciso appears to have got abit Billy big bollocks
I don't think Fab will put up with strollers in the squad for long. Hopefully it's still a lack of match fitness.

I don't think it helps when you're playing against cross and we managed to be dragged down to their level. We still won with something to spare, you feel if they did get an equaliser we had a number of gears to go through, we should be seeing off teams line Wolverhampton with more to spare though.

Wolves demolished us second half, cutting through at will.

Careless passing.

And Steele had a shocker. Slow to pass out putting pressure on the defenders who get closed down.

That aside, all rather jolly.

We were shocking 2nd half and lucky it wasn’t level after an hour or losing. Looked very much like a 2nd eleven playing for us bar Baleba and Adingra. Lots of unfit or rusty performances. Pervis, Webster, Fergie, Enciso Steele, Moder amongst them. Minteh was dreadful. Touch was awful as was his decision making. What happened to the player from pre season and first 2 matches??

Fourth round here we come!

Gotta be pleased with that.

- 2x worldies

- 1x first goal for Ferdi

- Key players rested

- Fringe players getting minutes

- Through to the next round of a winnable comp

- Still unbeaten

Good season this, so far.
Also, hopefully very useful for Fab....not just his own education (still incredibly inexperienced at this level), but also regarding the likes of Igor, Lamptey, Webster (maybe), Steele, etc. Great to have had that sort of test against a Premier League club (even much-changed). Also, I think we tend to forget how young some of our players are (huge potential with the right coaching).

Cursed competition, felt like shit after beating Crawley because of Matt’s injury and feel only relief that we survived the second half tonight.

Didn’t think Igir too bad but Webster went to shit once the pressure started coming

Enciso so poor

Estupinan - where’s he gone !

POS

Ferguson looked sharp

Ferdi scoring

Adingra class - got to start on Saturday

Wieffer did well

2 great goals

Into the next round and found the way whilst suffering

Hard to judge us based on mostly second fiddle in the cup. We seemed to give the ball away every time we played it out from the back - mostly Igor. Enciso was pants and Moder rusty. But Adingra and Baleba were great. Estupiñán played a full 90, Ferguson had a proper run around and Ferdi and Weiffer look the real deal.

Agreed. I really hope Ferguson is closely studying every aspect of Welbeck’s game. There’s quite a gap between them at the moment.
Possibly a case of he knows what he should be doing, knows what he wants to do, but can’t physically do it.
I really thought we were looking at a burgeoning world class player a year or so ago.
Hopefully the minutes will help get him back there.

He will never have Welbecks pace so will have to find another way to play to become effective. That or we would have to set up in a way to accommodate his strengths.
