Even The Sun are unlikely to report a false RIP. Sad news.
The Sun, unlikely to report false information about football ?

Unless I'm mistaken, his time at Villa coincided with future Albion players Dennis Mortimer and John Gregory. Villa were certainly a team of National interest at the time and Gary Shaw was a young star.

Correct. Shaw was just starting to establish himself in the Villa first team when Gregory joined us.

Dennis Mortimer captained the Villa side that won the European Cup that Shaw also played in. Also in that team was Des Bremner brother of future Albion striker Kevin.

Yes, sadly now confirmed. Career was blighted by a very bad injury (knee, I think) and although he recovered it was never to the same level he'd been at before.
RIP.

Supporter for 60 years, but have to admit his name didn't jump out at me, sorry
Geez....playing in a title winning and European Cup winning squad of only 14 players and scoring plenty of goals.
Supporter for 60 years, but have to admit his name didn't jump out at me, sorry
Mind you...met a guy once ( in the late 60's ) who had no idea who Bobby Moore or Bobby Charlton were.

A couple of weeks ago my boss, who is of an age with Gary Shaw and used to play for Newcastle's youth and reserve teams, told me that Shaw was one of the best he'd shared a pitch with.

RIP Gary
