Fiveways
Bart 7 -- good distribution
Veltman 7 -- so solid this season, nicked the ball impressively several times
JPvH 7 -- kept things tight, good on the ball
Dunk 6 -- generally solid
Hinshelwood 6 -- intelligent positioning and use of the ball
Baleba 8.5 MotM -- outrageous talent
Ayari 7 -- kept things ticking, some good creativity
Minteh 5 -- pressing is something else, final ball poor
Rutter 6 -- inventive, finishing in line with the feedback from Leeds
Mitoma 5 -- some good stuff, but poor decision-making, especially the treble first half effort and, even more so, that tame shot at the keeper when Welbeck was in acres of space on the penalty spot
Welbeck 6 -- intelligent making of space, touches didn't quite work out, impressive work rate

Subs: think FH made all the right decisions on this one, but none of them did much -- all 5

Some stunning play in there today, but final ball, crossing, decision-making and finishing way below par.

Mitoma and Minteh are 4 at the absolute best. You can't stink like that at home against a promoted team and be rated average. Mitoma is meant to be world class for goodness sake.
On a point of pedantry 5, is below average.

Bart 7 -
Veltman 8 - quietly excellent
JPvH 8.5 - captain's performance
Dunk 1 - I took off 4 for another poxy wasted free kick. Just bloody arrogant to think about taking that
Hinshelwood 6
Baleba 8.5 - looks & sometimes is clumsy but what a prospect
Ayari 7.5
Minteh 5.5
Rutter 5
Mitoma 5 - generally dominated by his full back

So is Hinshelwood our first choice left back? Last season I was under the impression he was a midfielder being played out of position at right back before his injury, but thought he was playing there out of necessity and that once Veltman/Lamptey were fit, he'd go back into midfield.

Seems we now have adequate others for the full back positions. Estupinian, Kadioglu, Veltman, Lamptey etc...but we are still starting Hinshelwood at LB. Is he that good that we need to shoehorn him in to the starting line up wherever we can, or is it just that he's now a full back plain and simple, and we are unlikely to see him in midfield any more?

Thoughts?

I hope not. He’s not comfortable at LB at all. He’ll be one hell of a midfielder in a few years though.

Not sticking to the bizarre dictate of “never give lower than a 6”.

Verbruggen 7
Veltman 7 (10 first half)
JPVH 7.5
Dunk 6
Hinshelwood 7 (much better second half)
Baleba 9 MOTM
Ayari 5 (good nuts and bolt stuff, but unable to see an early pass & his game fell apart later).
Minteh 2 (he killed promising moves on repeat. Ipswich were lucky he played)).
Mitoma 6 (awful first half, improved second, three markers!)
Rutter 5
Welbeck 6.5

[Rutter … that’s as viewed from the NS. In an ultra congested midfield, did I miss brilliance in the southern half of the pitch first half?].

Can’t be arsed to rate the subs. It signalled us losing much game discipline and structure. Great shot by Evan though.

Bart 7 - good with his feet, made the saves he had to make, claimed what he had to claim.

Veltman 6.5 - excellent defensively, but offers nothing going forward.

JPVH 7.5 - excellent again. If anything, I’d want more from him in progressing the ball.

Dunk 6.5 - decent with the ball. Got beaten in the air a lot though. Spends so much time covering Hinshelwood at the moment though.

Hinshelwood 5.5 - I honestly really like the lad, and think he’ll be fantastic when he develops in midfield. But he looks totally uncomfortable at left back. Still, much better than he was against Utd.

Baleba 8.5 - the best player on the pitch by a country mile. Needs to be further up if anything. Personally I’d have preferred to keep Gilmour for that role and push Baleba further up where he can affect the play offensively.

Ayari 7.5 - I really like him. Some misplaced passes, but he was trying to be inventive. Worked well defensively. Showed a much better level than Milner did in the role against Utd, and balances Baleba out well.

Ruttner 6 - I’m not sold yet. He did look to create, which is positive, but he looked lost defensively in that high 8 role, in contrast to Ayari. Missed a glorious chance too. Doesn’t look a £40m player yet, but will hopefully grow into the role - Joao Pedro walks back into this side instead of him though, surely?

Minteh 6 - there’s something there. He’s a decent crosser of the ball, he works hard defensively, he just doesn’t look settled when taking on his man yet. Needs to be better than this though.

Mitoma 5 - just really poor, and missed a sitter to boot, as well as another glorious chance. Honestly, a 5 is generous.

Welbeck 6 - worked hard, but his anticipation in the 6 yard box was lacking on multiple occasions. Didn’t involve himself in the game enough to bring others into play, for me.

Manager 6 - I thought he made the wrong subs, personally, and I thought his inability to really change it up and spot where the space was handicapped us.

Subs

Enciso 6 - bang average. There’s such quality there, but he looks like he’s trying too hard.

Turkish guy (sorry, but I’ve no idea how to spell his surname yet) 6 - a really poor start, but grew into it. I’d much prefer to see him tried out on the right.

Ferguson 6 - brought on too late, but nearly scored.

Adingra 6 - didn’t really affect the game. Didn’t work defensively as well as Minteh either.

Neither Ferdi nor Pervis were completely match fit.
I'd assume it's Ferdi's place to lose now.
Jack's a prospect but not a left back

I think now that Ferdi is up and running, we could really use Jack as cover in midfield, especially without Milner and O’Reilly. I’m liking a lot of what Ayari is doing, but he is a bit lightweight and really seemed to tire today.

8? Reasoning? Wouldn’t have been surprised if he got took off at half-time
He did alright, although I might have gone too high on reflection and gone for a 7. He was outer best forward player today IMHO, although that wasn’t difficult.

Not if you allow a score of 0.
I have always assumed these mark/score/ratings are “out of 10“ i.e. a ten point scale. What do others think?
