I think if we're going to be realistic here - it's unlikely that Ferguson is going be the top, top striker that we hoped he would be.

I personally think he'll still be good, but a top Premier League striker, probably not. It's the hardest position in football, and we would know it by now if he was.

I think he needs a loan, as I can't see him getting many minutes this season.

Hope he proves me wrong, as he seems like a nice chap with a great attitude.

Because, clearly, we're very intelligent around here.

I was curious, it does give some perspective. If I am not mistaken, surprisingly difficult to determine without any experience googling these things.

It would seem Harry Cane scored 21 Goals at 21yrs of age. Only 3 at 20, in his first senior Tottenham PL season.

I would therefore deduce Ferguson still has plenty of time (understatement) to become the player we all hope that he will! 👍🏻

Ferguson: 2022/23 (18) - 6 Goals. 2023/2024 (19) - 6 Goals. 2024/2025 (20) - 3+ …and IMO we can still continue to hope that he will be capable of 21+ goals in 2025/26 and we’ll have our very own Harry Kane.
He's already level with Kane on medals.

I think if we're going to be ridiculously judgemental on a 19 year old with immense talent who has been out injured for months here on the basis of a 10 minute cameo in a lost game for a team mostly defending - it's unlikely that Ferguson is going be the top, top striker that we hoped he would be.

I personally think he'll still be good, but a top Premier League striker, probably not. It's the hardest position in football, and we would know it by now if he was.

It's not on the basis on 10 minutes, my opinion anyway.

He's had a few WOW moments, but generally speaking he has shown that he does not have have absolute ability required for a top striker at this level.

I think he will follow a similar career trajectory to Chris Wood. In fact they seem to me like they're similar types of player. He'll score goals in the top division - but never be a top striker at Premier League level, but would probably be a 20+ goal a season striker in the Championship.

Yeah, 20 next month.

We're no longer League One hopefuls. We're a top Premier League side. More often than not, if by 20 they are not demonstrating qualities that they're a top quality player at this level, then they probably will never be.

I rate him, I think he's good... but he's not the next Alan Shearer. I think he'll be a useful squad player going forward, unless we decide to part ways.

That's literally the opposite to what most people would say about a 19 year old.

I wonder if he might be the next Harry Kane? Who at his age was on a failed loan at Norwich. And went on to make his debut for Tottenham at 21.

Evan has, by all accounts, one of the most important assets a talented person can have - determination. Countless people at the club and around him have spoken of his professionalism for such a young player, his focus on improving his game and dedication to his progress. He isn’t being a prick in Shoosh, or getting bad headlines. He’s just a young guy who has had injuries/illness at a very young age playing elite sport.

Get him fit - treated with kid gloves - ease the minutes in and the goals and form will come.

With this guy he needs care and management, not undue pressure.

You are most welcome to have your opinion on a young player, but I feel it's these sorts of opinions why we have an ignore idiot user function:thumbsup:

And at 18/19 he was demonstrating those qualities. In the PL, not League One. Then he got injured.

Quite how you're concluding that he's not demonstrating those qualities at 20 when a) he's not yet 20 and b) he's already demonstrated them, I don't know.

When Salah was 19 he was playing for Al Mokawloon, and by the age of 23 he had amassed 2 whole Premier League goals.

I can see why you might become frustrated and unable to articulate a counter argument to my controversial comment, so instead furiously stick your head in the sand by clicking on the ignore user button.

However, I suggest waiting a few months, or even years, and see what happens with his development.

I obviously believe that I'm correct about this. Time will tell. Hope he proves me wrong. If I'm not, then you can bounce my comments and take the piss, which I'd gladly receive.

You don’t need to take the “don’t be so hard on him, he‘s only 19” line with Ferguson.
The goals he’s scored and his early performances speak for themselves and pooh pooh the argument that he’s not all that gifted.
Unfortunately injuries have been a massive spanner in the works .
He clearly had (and hopefully still has) magic though.

When Shearer was 19/20, he was scoring 3 or 4 goals a season. The likes of Rooney and Owen are rare.

You may well be right if injuries get the better of him. well done you.
If you’re saying he was never that good in the first place, give me a few other examples of 18 year old premier league strikers who made more impact than Ferguson in his first spell in the team.
