Ah, ok. it's in the detailed weeds of the laws. So here we are with MUST. No discretion. Remember refs can be sanctioned if they don't apply the laws. They are fulltime professionals and a sanction can result in a loss of earnings potentially. I thought the ref did extremely well to spot the kicking the ball away.

All of the debates are trying to find a way for not giving Rice a yellow.
They are all tying themselves in contradictory knots with examples of decisions they think indicate the yellow card should not have been awarded.
I had a long twitter spat with a gooner providing all of the lame excuses: Consistency/Pedro/Moving ball/ FK taken when V nudges it forward/Red card for velts etc, etc.
Eventually I just said ok, not going to argue the minor details anymore.
Pedro - Yellow
Veltman - Yellow
Rice - Yellow
Rice sent off - 1-1

Why don’t people read a thread and by all means agree with the comments made by others, rather than repeating what has already been said over and over and over again like it’s the first time it’s been said, as if some huge new revelation? Grates tbh.

It’s not clear at all, as proved by the sheer weight of bullshit argument it’s created both pro and anti Rice, pro and anti Veltman, pro and anti Pedro, pro and anti referee, pro and anti media commentators….
It’s ok to have a strong, uncompromising view. But as I said elsewhere on this forum (possibly even on this thread, I’ve lost track), if you’re going to support the strict-letter-of-the-law principle then you’d better apply that noble position from now on, including Albion players delaying a free kick in similar circumstances, not to mention throw-ins taken from exactly the right place, no time wasting, no feigning injury, no looking for free kicks and penalties… and so on.
This is what pisses me off - the hypocrisy of people getting on their high horse. FWIW I think either both players get yellow carded or (better) neither does, but they get a firm warning from the referee.

Rice committed an offence, Veltman just wanted to play football. Last I checked that wasn't against the rules/laws.

These cry babies are dominating the airwaves tonight. The Veltman thing reared its head again and the other sending offs. A catalogue of corrupt/biased against them officials over three seasons are stopping them winning the title.

They constantly moan about stuff. Refs, injuries, like they are the only team who have them. Never their fault they get beat (or draw in this case!)
To be fair, I would imaging our teenage and twenty something newbies are exactly the same on their young gentlemen's forums.
NSC is a celestial citadel in comparison, and is full of elderly gentlemen and women, enjoying their relish.

We should pretend we don’t remember the Veltman thing if we come across them, as though it was a nothing incident we’ve already forgotten about. They’d properly hate that.
