This is what I expect to happen. A 100 point deduction which will only relegate City for a year. The league look tough, City get a glorified slap on the wrist but get to keep their titles and play the victim whilst not being to displeased at the outcome. Everybody wins.
One year of not winning the prem is that punishment enough

Still dull though.

The subject matter is often a little dry, so maybe zhuzh it up by making financial comparisons to the porn industry? Possibly replace the poster of The Cure with a different page 3 model for each video, and have some of your DVD collection on the shelves.

City’s legal team are very confident they will defend the case

That's what lawyers would always say. You don't go in saying 'our case is weak we expect to lose'.

IF found guilty of all/vast majority of charges then there is a high probability of a significant points deduction in the 30-100 range. I would be surprised if City were expelled from the PL though.

Cannot see how the City board of directors could survive if found guilty, as the charges are effectively an accusation of corporate deceit. The Juventus board all resigned last year when club accused of accounting malpractice.

Interesting, thanks

True, they’d normally say it is 50/50 if they think they have a weak case

But even then they'd only say that in private to their client, right? I can't imagine they'd tell their opponent.

Re Leicester. They basically moved their accounting period so their year ended after they had been relegated from the Prem, and then claimed the Prem had no jurisdiction.

And are now claiming the high ground by claiming they stuck to the rules. Weasel club (once again).
In fairness, every single club is doing its best to get round the rules to suit themselves. I don't really see Leicester as any different.

I wish they'd throw the whole rulebook in the bin and instead just do a better job of distributing the vast sums of money across professional football.

City’s legal team are very confident they will defend the case (and their legal costs were £20m a year ago).

A 70 point deduction at the start of the season would be exciting. They would probably escape relegation on the last day.

I agree with you, but the Premier League itself is an exercise in concentrating money in the hands of the few.

Re Man City.

Just from what i've seen and I admit this is online so may be biased but looked very thorough and convincing, Man City are bang to rights and will be found guilty of many or all of these charges.

My strong thought is that the independent panel will somehow arrive at a decision which docks Man City a load of points, but not so many they go down, and so avoids the worst case scenarios of legal challenges going across seasons etc.

I guess this would be about 50 points. So they get 85ish points, finish on 35, they stay up, triumphantly on the last day having come back from minus points at xmas, and all continues as normal. PL have got to look tough but don't have ongoing legal hell hanging over them
