I paid £165 for AC/DC this year which I think is the most I have spent on a single gig ticket.

I've travelled abroad for gigs and spent a lot on festivals but these are basically holidays so I would not include them.

£900 for four tickets to England vs Argentina at France 98. Well worth it to see a great game (right up to David Barry’s penalty)

Around £250 from a tout in 2002 for Eng v Bra WCQF, having spent £500+ to get to Japan I wasn't going to not go to that match!!! Ticket ended up being in the Brazil end, which was actually not bad as their fans were a lot more attractive than ours....!!!

On a trip to Las Vegas in 2002, I was in a queue at the MGM Grand to buy tickets. Got to the front and had a choice of Paul McCartney or David Copperfield. I hesitated as my wife wanted Copperfield and I didn't know McCartney was in town. Copperfield it was, at £25 each, and since then I regretted it.
Fast forwards to 2009 and McCartney played a Christmas gig at the O2, 22nd December.
Tickets were £250 each (2) to sit high up in the gods, parking was £25 plus went into London for the day and spent a fortune.
But worth every penny as I sat with tears rolling down my face most of the evening. He's a real Beatle!!

Since then 4 trips into Europe have set me back over £3000, especially when the wife thinks a week in Rome & Athens is a wonderful idea.

£200 for a ticket to Trinity College May Ball in 2000. I even had the privilege of queuing in an alleyway overnight to secure the ticket...

In mitigation, it was 'free' food and drink until dawn, and I did get to go onstage with Elastica and give Justine F a kiss on the cheek*...

November 2000 I happened to be in Vegas at the time of the Lennox Lewis fight. The ticket prices were eye watering and we paid 100 US dollars just to watch it live on CCTV in the MGM Grand.

Paid almost 700 for tickets, transport and hotel for me and my then girlfriend to see Chili Peppers at the now defunct London Arena circa 2005. Was a genuinely terrible show. Lacklustre and watery. Awful. Shite venue too.

Realised after that could have seen them in Paris for half the price including travel and hotel. My fault for bad planning.

Mostly pay £20 - £40 for events now. But I don’t go to arena shows or festivals anymore. I don’t like seeing bands in those circumstances and there’s too many people in one place for my tolerance.

I’ll got to gigs at Green Door, Chalk, Komedia, Dome etc and often do, that’s the right size for me.

These days I prefer talks or lectures. Saw Ranulph Fiennes recently.
Seeing Tim Peake at the Dome on Sunday.
A talk / film about Antarctica at Ropetackle soon.


Had tickets for Ant Middleton in November at BC .
But he pulled out for the third time. This time to do a TV show. I now swerve him and his output. You can’t treat supporters like that.

Also like to watch some classical afternoon concerts at Dome. When BPO or LPO are in town it’s a real treat. And very inexpensive. Under £20

Had a handful of very expensive meals over the years. Ranging from £150 pp to £400pp in London, Norwich, and abroad.

I think it is the £185 each for hospitality to see our first game in Europe against AEK. We were over from Brazil and wanted to guarantee tickets. As it turned out I could have bought regular tickets anyway but think I more than made up for it in wine.

Slightly off topic but apparently his kids are called Oakley, Priseis, Gabriel, Shyla and Bligh.

That really should have been a warning sign.

I think so.

It was to impress the girlfriend and try to save a failing relationship. It didn’t work. She had a massive go at me and said it was “too big a gesture”


I felt rather silly. Like the guy who gives flowers to a stripper.

I dread to think what the four Euro away trips (for 3 or 4 of us) add up to... in fact I don't... they are some of the best 'money well spent' experiences ever!

Yes, same here. Except my son, @OvingdeanSeagull was 26.

A memorable, quite brilliant experience, worth every penny.
