I’ve been finding this story fascinating especially that it’s not more public news.

A crew went up for a short trip, there was a problem with the craft and the crew are now stuck in Space on the international space station until February where they will come down with rival SpaceX - https://www.theguardian.com/science/article/2024/aug/24/nasa-astronauts-return-february-spacex

Now it turns out there is a mysterious sonar sound playing out from their speakers and no one at NASA knows what it is

It’s a colossal embarrassment for Boeing, and puts America’s space program firmly in Elon Musk’s hands.

It’s one of the things that frustrates me most about Musk, he’s capable of the work that he does at SpaceX but then devotes hours of his time to shit-talking on Twitter, picking fights with entire nation states.

The guy isn’t stable, and that’s a genuine shame, but it does mean that those around him should be keeping a way tighter rein on him. He’s not going to achieve his space-bound objectives if he’s busy trying to whip-up riots in countries like ours.

What this illustrates is that as much as these space flights feel quite routine now, when it comes to transporting real live humans, it’s still anything but.

An initial planned stay of a week or so will be an out eight months as things stand - we don’t have craft ready to transport humans just waiting around to be used as and when.

In a statement sent to Jeff Foust at Space News, NASA said the sound has stopped, and gave an explanation. “The feedback from the speaker was the result of an audio configuration between the space station and Starliner,” it said. “The space station audio system is complex, allowing multiple spacecraft and modules to be interconnected, and it is common to experience noise and feedback.” The feedback has no technical impact on the crew or the craft’s operations, it added.

'However, a theory from the UK football forum North Stand Chat, that the ISS is developing its own gravity, and there is a football bouncing around the outside of ISS at precise intervals, allegedly the result of 'Ulloa's penalty kick', cannot be ruled out'.
