i dont see who is supposed to decide what is "fair" price. maybe if the band and promoters dont get their target revenue, they'll cancel the gigs, that'll make everyone happier?
Maybe a start is being transparent about pricing? I may have overlooked this, but I do not recall this being mentioned when the prices were announced? Folk only found out 150 pound tickets were now 400 when they finally got onto the site.

It was definitely mentioned that they were doing dynamic pricing - I have no inclination to try and dig out a source for that but I remember reading it and I was totally unsurprised when I read people were being screwed over.

I'd assume that if Bruce Springsteen can afford to play Wembley with a MASSIVE band, and still presumably do okay out of it while charging much lower prices, then that's probably in the region of 'fair'. Bands and promoters wouldn't be cancelling gigs as that would mean they'd make no money at all. They'd just be trousering lower profits.
Erm… Springsteen allowed Ticketmaster to price gouge on his most recent tour, so bad example!

But let’s not kids ourselves. Bands aren’t enabling it to they can break even - they do it to milk money out of desperate fans.

Enter a queue exepcting to pay £150, get to the front of the queue several hours later and be asked for £300 for the same thing instead. It stinks.

Fair enough. That said, was it mentioned ahead of Saturday how much the maximum would be?

Quite. Some back-of-the-fag-packet maths using an average ticket price of 170 quid gives 170 million in ticket sales for this tour. If you cannot make a tour profitable with 170 million quid then WTF.

Interesting point. Stadium gig tickets used to be cheaper, a lot cheaper. I have seen The Rolling Stones a number of times over the past few decades and the stadium gigs were always relatively cheap. I had a decent pitch seat 10 rows from the front in Hamburg in 2007 and think it was about 100 euros. Fast forward and these seats are now over a grand and part of a fancy package.

The only stadium "gig" that I have been to was Pink Floyd ( minus Roger Walters) Wembley August 1988 .

Ticket price £15 , which was for standing or sit where ever you like .

According to the Bank of England inflation calculator that is equal to £40 in 2024 money

So hundreds of pounds to see a manchester city fan duo act does seem a tad excessive but if folk can afford it then good for them and I very much hope they have a jolly good time .

Not that I saw.

It may have been that I read an article that predicted/surmised they would have dynamic pricing rather than something in the actual details. I can't really remember and it's the sort of thing that's a right pain to do a search for.

I don't think it makes it much better either way in any case, and I'm more confused that from what I can tell it only seems to have effected people who'd been queuing for hours rather than being applied consistently from the start of the sale. It's not like they couldn't tell how many people were trying to buy tickets from the start.

Just looked on the official Oasis website and and cannot see anything relating to prices let alone dynamic pricing.

that sounds like shitty practice, bit different point. the headlines mix up fairness of pricing, the prices charged, rather than manner of advertising using the old bait and switch. we do prohibit that these days, so it's probably something already legislated for if politicans really want to act.

Didn't the yanks do dynamic pricing for the Copa America ? Miami based games were through the roof. The world cup prices are gonna be ridiculous.

I don't remember seeing anything about dynamic pricing before it was actually being reported by people trying to buy tickets, anyway, it is what is is. I've also just read there will be no more dates.

This did make me chuckle:

The comments are also very humorous.

Charge what you want but the dynamic pricing thing is ridiculous. Millions of people joined the queue at the same time, but the ones who were put at the back of the queue have to pay more? There's no argument to justify this.
The more I read about this and the more I'm glad I've taken no part in it. I'll keep the memories from 1998 and leave it at that.

Any comment from the band?

The odd ticket still available for a lot of the dates.

If anyone wants to go to Glasgow you can pick up a ticket for four times the original cost!

They try and make out its normal and compare to airlines and holiday companies doing it...... but its very different.

With airlines certain dates are known to be more expensive and you can choose to book outside those, you can't with concert tickets.

With airlines you will get bigger discount generally by booking early, but then early means a year before they sell out with incremental increases, it doesn't or shouldn't be compared to an event that will sell out in one day, where there is no ability to be early or late booker, its all chance with millions all trying from before 9am on same day at same time.

So if yours didn't crash or call you a bot you get for £150, but somebody who joined earlier and was booted out by ticketmaster has to pay double for same ticket through zero choice or fault of their own?

It's obscene. One day sell out events as this was always going to be, 1 price per seat/standing type. If that means initial price is a bit higher, so be it, its fair and everyone knows what it is and can choose wether to buy or not.

Stealth profiteering from people is wrong.
