Just spoke with my mate who works with two Live Nation Artists. He said there are a number of ways but he guesses for these Oasis gigs there is a contract with the promoter with a (huge) “guarantee” and probably bonuses for sales targets (usually things like VIP packages). This will have been signed some time ago. The promoter will then pay an agreed advance to the band but this will be held by the band’s booker and only passed onto the band once the show is completed.
Great, thanks for that. (y)

Just thinking aloud, the hit rate of posters in this thread getting tickets must be something like 1 in 20 or so.

Who the heck was able to buy the reported 1.4 million tickets to these shows? 🤷‍♂️
Does that mean 19 in 20 didn’t get fleeced?

I was called “sad” on here by another poster when i announced I’d be using the £700 I “saved” by not buying an England semi final ticket, using it for my weekend in Newcastle, including curry.

Likewise, on Wembley gig night I’m gonna stick on both Stone Roses CDs and use to money I saved to buy cheap lager and curry, lots of curry.

If you're spending all the money you've saved by not going to one of the Wembley gigs on curry, either you're being ripped off as well or your toilet's going to look like Passchendaele the next morning.

For anyone interested in Ticketmaster's price-gouging Platinum 'service', I wrote a blog post about it - with some very specific details, and a gratuitous mention of the Albion.

Brilliant article!!

I know I live in a fantasy world but I really struggle with tickets to arenas and stadiums being more expensive in the first place.

Surely having more people though the door means that you can charge a little less for the show. Especially given that (and I concede that it may be my personal opinion here) the quality of the product is so much less.

My preferred venue in Melbounre is the forum (holds 2000 odd) tickets are currently around $100 a show (what I paid for Ride? Which is far more than it was five years ago. Mostly I won't bother to pay more to see less at a stadium/arena - The Cure, ACDC and next year The Prodigy are the exceptions.

These guys are pretty good, spend the money you save on enough booze* to make you forget they aren't the real deal and enjoy what will probably be a superior upfront and personal experience.

*other stimulants are available.

Have been seeing quite legitimate rumours and hints that after 15 years, the band will be forming again for their 30th anniversary tour, next year. Usually, I just brush it off as we have been fooled before, but this feels different and having watched the recent interview release with Noel and his sincere warming to his heyday and kind words to Liam, and vice versa with Liam on the DM tour.

Could this genuinely now happen? Or am I getting fooled (AGAIN)?
Had absolutely no desire to see them at their height and the feeling has not modified over the years.

Interesting point. Stadium gig tickets used to be cheaper, a lot cheaper. I have seen The Rolling Stones a number of times over the past few decades and the stadium gigs were always relatively cheap. I had a decent pitch seat 10 rows from the front in Hamburg in 2007 and think it was about 100 euros. Fast forward and these seats are now over a grand and part of a fancy package.

i dont see who is supposed to decide what is "fair" price. maybe if the band and promoters dont get their target revenue, they'll cancel the gigs, that'll make everyone happier?
I'd assume that if Bruce Springsteen can afford to play Wembley with a MASSIVE band, and still presumably do okay out of it while charging much lower prices, then that's probably in the region of 'fair'. Bands and promoters wouldn't be cancelling gigs as that would mean they'd make no money at all. They'd just be trousering lower profits.
