Had some fun last night. In the middle of a tour of big arenas in Canada's cities, Billy Idol brought his Rebel Yell tour to little ol' Bala, Ontario where I work (year-round population less than a thousand). He played the historic Kee To Bala, which sits out over a lake. I last saw him when he was still in Generation X 45 years ago, so I popped along to see how he is doing. Like me, he's grown a tad older but is still impressively fighting fit and strutting his stuff. Here's a little video I made of some of the hits. Note: his lead guitarist, Steve Stevens, is outstanding, and has worked with loads of people from Michael Jackson to the Thompson Twins.

Both my offspring at Wembley tonight for Ms Swift, not my bag but apparently she does over 3 hours 15 and normally sings 48 songs in her set.

Coach Party for me last Friday in Guildford's aptly-named Boileroom. As usual, a great set of banging tunes. Support from experimental post-punks Alien Chicks and a lovely acoustic set from Stu Spiller of Panda Swim. All for less than £20 (fees included

My daughter saw Taylor Swift last night at Wembley. She had a great time and the photos she took looked very impressive.

I don’t mind the songs I hear on the radio from her and from what I could tell and what my daughter says, she can actually sing.

I'm off to Brighton Psychfest on Friday and have a quick question for the informed on the thread....

Is it easy to venue hop at events like this ( like the idea of Eliza Skelton at the Komedia and The Horrors at the Conc 2 ) or is it better to pick a venue and stick to it ?

It depends how much you want to see a specific act and how much time there is between sets. I always stay more or less in the same area so don’t miss who I want to see. It’s a fair walk between Komedia and Concorde which you could end up doing only to find its full to capacity once you get there. Taxi would work but hassle with that. So yeh! Stick to one venue would be my recommendation . Enjoy the day.

Talking festivals- Mutations line up has been released. It runs from Tuesday to Saturday rather than the usual Thursday to Sunday.

@CorgiRegisteredFriend answer is a good one. Also this is the first time the festival has run in Brighton and so hard to say if it is oversold. I think The Horrors will be busy given it will be only their 2nd gig after a 2 year live absence.

I've got lucky in that the 3 acts I wanted to see in Newdad, The Horrors and Scaler are all on one after the other at Concorde 2.

Had a great time at Brighton Psych Fest. Smoothly run, which is no surprise given Joy are the promoters. Saw full sets from Divorce, Geordie Greep, bdrmm and Pigs x7. All very different genre wise but all excellent.

We’re lucky to now have 3 excellent multi venue festivals in Brighton with Psych Fest, Mutations and TGE. I worry though about the impact of SXSW London on TGE. I would imagine it will at the very least reduce the number of international buzz acts who will instead play SXSW London.

It was brilliant...Stayed in the Concorde 2 for NewDad and The Horrors after the first two you mentioned before my legs gave up the ghost and hobbled home...

The openers at The Arch, Juniore were the best of the lot, though way too packed and sweaty to stay there as not a youngster any more !

Are you doing the whole thing? Think I'm just going to get a Friday ticket - mainly to see Slow Fiction, who are brilliant. The Saturday clashes with Pitchfork Fest in Dalston, which has some of the same bands playing.

A friend took me to see BDRMM about a year ago. Thought they were excellent.

I got a ticket about a month ago for the whole thing. Subsequently Seetickets have e-mailed to say that I can get a refund as the dates have changed slightly and the Sunday is no longer happening. Clearly I’m not going to do that, so as it stands I will be going to see as much as possible before collapsing in a late middle aged heap

After a summer of stadium shows and festivals I finally got back to basics. Doomsday Fest at the Green Door was another triumph for the South Coast Extreme Metal promoters, delivering a quality day of metal despite a couple of cancellations. The utterly cosmic post-black metal of Inferno (cz) was just mesmerising and headliners Hellripper delivered a blistering old school thrash-speed metal masterclass featuring favourites such as Goat Vomit Nightmare and Necroslut. A perfect way to celebrate the point at Arsenal.

Last night I went to see Tuk Smith and the Restless Hearts at the Albert in front of disappointingly small audience, most of whom had actually travelled some distance to see the gig, only about 3 or 4 Brightonians there. That said the band just got up on stage and played as if the room was full (luckily the rest of their tour has pretty much done that) and just rocked the cobwebs out of my weekend. Like a supercharged Cheaptrick, classic American melodic rock full of hooks and the odd nod to the likes of the Stones, Thin Lizzy. It was an utterly brilliant night, the room was far from full, but everyone who was there just said f*ck it, let's rock anyway. I loved it. If Tuk ever does come back I'll be telling everyone I know to get down there.

Have you seen Electric Cowboy Club, they play the Green door quite a bit, now getting bigger though.
Brandon the leader singer is a lovely bloke and although at first believe or not a young Teddyboy he also loves Psychobilly and metal, interesting take on all the influences, not sure it is Psychobilly or Thrash etc.
