No need for any of this, "I was right", "no I was right"

It obviously was very likely to happen. It obviously got pulled after the O'Reilly injury.

What matters is that we have a quality midfield option going forward. Let's get the lad in the side at the weekend. He's looked terrific in pre season and very good against Man Utd
Doing what exactly?

Sorry, don't get it. O'Reilly has scored 35 goals in a 150 odd pro appearances; WBG has not scored a professional goal in league football. They're different players.

True. They are not like for like players. But the point i'm making is that Gilmour is obviously a quality option. If he plays at the weekend there's every chance he'll continue his fine form

It's easy to forget that footballers are people and that, for a moment, Gilmour and family (I assume) would have been fully prepared for a huge upheaval and a new life in a new country. Sometimes it hits me how bonkers sport is that such a big life change can just be scuppered/happen without you actually being the one to decide it. I can picture him standing there with a "learn Italian" book in his hand and his front covered in flour from his relentless Italian cuisine practice over the last few days when he was told it wasn't happening

"Take the pasta down from the rack. It's not happening"

"What about your Ragu Bill?"

"Forget it"

I'm not so sure it was. He played 90 mins on Saturday at the home game and that rarely happens if a player is due to have a medical at the beginning of the following week.
Romano is not infallible.

Absolutely, WBG is a fab player - but he is not (and probably won't ever be) a goalscoring midfielder in the MOR mould and therefore the injury will have little bearing on the Napoli shenanigans.

PS. Hope he gets a hat trick against the ARSE.

A lot of the reporting on this hypothetical deal seems to be down to wishful thinking/reporting from Napoli and/or Billys agents. Neither Brighton or the player has shown any sort of indications he's on his way.

The idea some have, that Billy was given a "farewell" game is utter bollocks. If a transfer was close he would not have played - very simple.
Billy was picked because he was considered the best player to put on the pitch if we wanted to win, which we also did.

His performance on Saturday was the best I've seen from him - he had some storming games last season but nothing quite like Saturday. I think he is a large part of the soft-belly the team had last season and I think I would always want to see him have a Baleba or Wieffer alongside him (Milner in times of bare bones!) for defensive solidity but he certainly has a lot to add and adds a dimension to our play if he feels empowered to get on the ball and drive forward.

Well chuffed if WB stays , never would have got rid myself as players that give everything every game are worth 3x a player who overall is technically better , but doesn`t have the same conviction , because ultimately they can always be relied on .
I would say he's technically one of the best players we have. Very interesting reading other teams message boards after they ve played us. Almost always pick him out.

If Billy is here to stay then I’m delighted, one of our best players and should be a starter when fit. If he gets the game time he deserves this season then he’ll either stay long term or be worth 25m+ by the end of the season, a win either way. Great news!!

Never mind Bill. I've been down Tesco and got this. It'll be just like being in Napoli:
