Crawley is not even completely in Sussex. Bits of North Crawley are actually in Surrey. Certainly nowhere near Mid Sussex as someone suggested.

Half of them now bleating on about how we only turned up at the Amex etc etc, 17k popped out of nowhere for their big day out at Wembley but I forget it never applies to them, or when they were getting about 800 at the Broadfield before Steve Evans rocked up.

Early Steve Evans era I went to Crawley-Wrexham and there were 600 there for a non-league game, was blowing a bit of a gale that night tho. How times change for the Hollywood lads

I've seen Crawley at Town Mead with a LOT less than 80 people there.
Always makes me laugh when people go on about the Brighton fan base and where were did we all come from. Forgetting the the maximum the Withdean ever held was about 8,000 but started at about 6,000, so quite clearly 30,000 does not fit. Also it is understandable that quite a lot of ours fans did not want to attend during that time, the temporary nature of the stadium meant it was not a great place to watch football, unless it was sunny. I genuinely used to question my sanity driving for two hours, siting in the pissing rain watching shit football and never expecting us to win.
We always had a great away following during that period.
The people going on about it never had to put up with what we have, they would have an case if we were at a 25000 purpose built stadium and only sold 8000 tickets, but not when you had to play your home games 70 miles away for two season and stuck in an athletic track with no roof for 12 years
What always seems to be forgotten is Withdean's capacity. If it held 20-30k we wouldn't have needed to move FFS. We filled at least 95% of capacity for most games there.
But then, given half of them were sitting in the away end and their 'mob' seemed to be about 13 years old, it might indeed be that some of them are new to this game themselves.

It did dip a bit at Withdean in that very dull period under Dean. In fact, there will be some league attendances at little old Broadfield this past season and this that will surpass the lowest league attendances under Wilkins, at least one of which did fall below the 5,000 mark, probably more than one
Withdean Capacity
Bar the opening season the lowest averages came under Wendy where his fledglings came a very flattering 7th but were some 7 points adrift and never in with a shout of the play offs.

They averaged 1000 - low in the Conference when we were at the Withdean, and 800 or so 2003 and before when they were in the Southern Premier 2003 and before. Their ground held a lot more at the time as well.

You’re obviously right but iirc many in the North Stand at the Goldstone for the 90’s FA Cup tie were chanting “Are U Palace in disguise” towards the East Terrace

The Dancefactory, formerly Cinderellas. It closed after the bouncers beat someone to death with a baseball bat.
And in between is Gatwick, also in Sussex. The county border is on that 1 mile stretch of the A23 north of Gatwick between the roundabout/hotel and the first Manor Royal roundabout. That border is at least 3 miles north of Crawley.
