Fans all over Europe do this, from Italian ultras turning up at training to that French cappo last season lecturing the players on the pitch (which is far worse for morale). Remember Wolves at the Amex abusing their players, throwing a shirt back? I'm pretty sure if those players were still on £20 a week there probably wouldn't be such scenes.

Like I said, I'm explaining it, not excusing it.
Fair enough. I find it hard to disentangle explanation from justification. There is, of course, an explanation for everything.

They also aren’t really providing the money that funds the wages. The vast majority of the money comes from TV.

Also if Everton are paying £80k a week and Spurs £100k then Spurs should win anyway.
Most salient point on this thread. Really shows the idiocy of that shout from the Everton fan.

I’d be blaming the hierarchy and tactically limited manager if I was them.

Dyche’s sides never score goals - even when Burnley finished 7th they only scored 36 goals that season. That’s one more than Sheffield United managed last season. Everton have no chance of being entertaining with a manager like Dyche at the helm and that’s not the players’ fault.

Genuinely not sure what the right emotion here is. Had hoped Marseille went to shit once they signed Greenwood. Now I really want Maups to do well.

Maybe we could send Crawley's Williams over to France for a week to maim Greenwood so that le petit maison de merde gets to play every game.

He didn’t say “I pay your wages”. He said “f***ing 80 grand a week”. And so did I.

He knows what you said perfectly well. He’s angry about the perceived reward to effort ratio.

And it is perceived. For every one of those guys there were thousands of Everton fans heading home after a day on the piss knowing not much will change until they get a fit right back and Branthwaute back.
Thing is - if PL footballers were earning £10k per week, they'd still be getting the exact same abuse. Their team lost, they've had a couple of beers too many / a big line of coke - and they want to take their aggression out on somebody.

I guess swearing at their players is better than having a scrap with the opposition fans

We’ll miss the greatest social media commentator on English football there is, can’t imagine his thoughts on the French top flight will be so entertaining for us

They are not going to like each other though... I give it a month before these two hotheads have fallen out over something.

10k a week is still probably more than many Everton fans in corporate hospitality earn a month, so the point remains.

There was a time (in our lifetime) when footballers lived in similar houses to many of their more well off fans and went out on Saturday night with Debbie or Leslie to have a steak and lager and lime in a Berni Inn that many of their fans also used. We don't know, because the internet didn't exist, but I'd bet they wouldn't shout at one of their players in the pub after a defeat in those days.
