F&C was £14. Not cheap but a small cod and chips in Eastbourne was £11.90 last week. So a £2 premium. The coffee and big choc muffin came to £7.50, probably not far off what you’d pay in Starbucks for similar. I wouldn’t be hungry enough to eat all that regularly but I can see myself enjoying a coffee and cake again.

Coffee and cake, especially in the afternoon, is a major part of my world. 7.50 is about the going rate in most cafes, both chain and hipster, these days.

I propose a new policy, if anyone mentions buying food and drink from the Amex then they should include in their praise/complaint the stand and concourse details otherwise the comment is meaningless.

Got there at 6.40 and initially bought from south end of concourse. 2 pints served quickly, bombay potato pie served hot and sturdy. The vegan curry took a while to be served but I will say that once tasted, it ranks in the top 5 of foodstuffs I have had in an amex concourse.
Tried the chips on Saturday and won't again. Oven chips piled on trays on top of each other so top ones get burnt and bottom ones are raw
Further beer purchases from middle serving area less impressive. Ordered an inches and harveys. Took ages for the one guy pouring to pour the harvey. When the server turned to apologise that she was still waiting for the cider, someone else snaffled the harveys. So the wait started again. For future may double up the second order to save time.
So all in all, it was a curate's egg of a catering experience

First time I had tried the self serve beer machines in WSL, as well as the self serve food area. Worked quite well I think. Barely wired qued at all.

Now this is true. That said,I have always loved cake and coffee in the afternoon, even when I was living in the UK. It fits my work day routine. I'm normally a bit frazzled by 3pm and a cake and caffein infused pause helps with the final push through to 5pm.

If I may be nosey, might you be someone who has a coffee pretty much immediately after they wake? It’ll likely be a major factor to why you feel the need for caffeine and sugar in mid afternoon! The science behind waiting 90 or so minutes after waking before your first caffeine consumption is really interesting, changed my afternoons for the better..
Yes. I start my day with a coffee. To be honest, I don’t feel the need for coffee in the afternoon….it’s more the need to have break which I find easier to achieve with the lure of a piece of cake and a coffee. Otherwise I’d just push on.
That said, I’m sure the caffeine and sugar rush helps when I get back to work.

It appears the Piglets 'selection' has had a slight increase, 50p per unit.
In Dick's Bar after one of our party had a baffling conversation with a barmaid, English was not her mother tongue in her defence, he ordered a Moretti top, was charged for the normal pint but the young lady in question then tried to charge him £2.50 for a splash of lemonade straight out of the Schweppes bottle. I'm guessing it was not only her first day at the Amex but possibly her first behind a bar.

In Barber's head we are just "customers". He won't give a stuff about crap, over-priced food all the time the punters keep shelling out for it. He will only take heed and think on if the revenue starts dropping off. No way is the quality / price going to improve until that happens. So just stop buying it.

I've not seen curry either, but I've not been to a game yet this season.
£7 for a tepid, overcooked burger in a stale bun!
Awful food, really is the low light for me. I do like to have a burger or pie at the footie but I’ll be sticking to pies now!
My Chicken and Chorizo pie in ESL yesterday was hot, crispy on top, and delicious

Fantastic! So whereabouts on the Amex concourse is your £15 meal? I’ll go next time…. Ah, you mean it’s several miles away? Right. Hmm. I think I can see a flaw in the point you’re making.

I have to say, the chocolate muffin outside the Amex was really excellent. (Stall next to the fish and chips.) Moist, rich, very chocolatey, and best of all, large. The flat white coffee was very good too. Highly recommended, and decently priced.
