I worked in Camden at that time, right back opposite MTV which I spent a lot of time in. In fact I used to run one of their music libraries.
The whole cool Britannia Britpop bollocks put me off pop music for life to be honest, but then again I'd just spent 3 years in Manchester and was one of the lucky ones who got to see Nirvana live.
Oasis (and other bands) represent my falling out of love with the music industry. It was a manufactured attempt to recreate something that somewhat happened organically elsewhere.
It somewhat dawned on me that listening to Oasis was like going to McDonalds to eat a "Mexican wrap".

Who and/or what exactly was manufactured? I agree the Cool Britannia and Brit Pop labels were abit naff and contrived but the bands can’t really be held to blame for labels the media dish out.

Record labels were signing bands before their third gig and redirecting more established bands to change their sound and write hits to fit in with the scene.
I am not sure I would go as far as saying this was manufactured in the same way as the spice Girls or Take that but it certainly lead to less interesting music. IMHO like.

No of course but I was right in the middle of it (in my 20s) and hated it.
Couldn't even bring myself to vote Blair. It just jarred.
I suspect it was coming out of Manchester and working in Camden.
But hasn’t this always been the way with most genres i.e. an interesting band or two come along and then record labels and other bands fall over themselves to follow? Punk, two-tone, indie in its various guises, Madchester, New Romantic, hair metal, thrash metal etc all suffered the same but I wouldn’t say these were necessarily manufactured scenes.

And it is usually the time when scenes become less interesting. It may have been my age at the time but it seemed like Brit Pop 'perfected' the phenomenon somewhat and created a fair chunk of dull music. Marion and Menswear I am looking at you.

Prepared to be gobsmacked. Demand will massively outstrip supply for the initial tickets, IMO.
If you give it to me I can spend it on tickets. That way we both get what we want.
