I haven’t seem a team employ thuggery tactics like that in a long time. I actually didn’t mind Crawley until tonight. Now I will enjoy their descent down the leagues and look forward to the day they inevitably liquidate.

How much are we paying those thugs in rent?
Enough to help pay a contract for a lower league journeyman / mixed martial artist to injure a £25m player after 6 minutes on his home debut.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Williams_(footballer)

"...the night was soured early on when O’Riley, who only joined from Celtic 24 hours earlier, was caught on the left ankle by a late, crunching tackle by Jay Williams in the sixth minute.

After lengthy treatment, the midfielder had to be helped by two physios as he limped from the field.

Williams, who was not booked for that challenge but was for another later, was booed throughout the first half and again when he was substituted in the second half."

The Damned United was on TV last night and I didn't realise I'd be watching a repeat today.
I watched it last night for the first time - not entirely sure how I'd never seen it.

And, yes, there were clear parallels in approach - "get into them, f*** 'em up" etc.

All summed up perfectly in the previous posts. The referee was hopelessly weak all game. Not even giving a yellow for the horror tackle on O'Riley gave them the green light. Both Encisco and Baleba were fortunate not to get badly injured. A team of thugs who lost all discipline when they went four down and managed by a typical lower league dinosaur who lost discipline at the end.

They're punching well above their weight. Hopefully they eventually go back to non league where they belong.

I actually cheered them on in last seasons playoffs, and was pleased for them when they made it.

Now - I hope they get absolutely dry-humped straight back down into the Noddyland leagues and beyond. I also hope Williams receives a season-ending injury very soon into the bargain, the snide, reckless, clogging great THUNDERCUNT.

CBA to waste expletives on them but they should have been down to at least 9 men by the end and we’re lucky we were fielding our 3rd XI against them
and not our PL side.

I used to go to a few Crawley matches back in the day and really thought they were one of the better small town ‘local’ football clubs in Sussex who played some decent football.

Any goodwill I felt for the underdogs went out the window by William’s amateurish red card-deserving challenge on O’Reily and the diving that resulted in a yellow card for Ayari.

I know the EFL Cup and FA cup are 15 minutes of fame for these small clubs and I have always loved the unpredictability of knockout competitions but well done Crawley -their only claim to glory for me now is that they played against Brighton, cheated, played like thugs and still lost.

They should take a leaf out of Grimsby’s playbook next time - if they had come to play honest and good willed football, with a bit of humility, Brighton fans Im sure would have given them a warm reception and send off.

As it was - they just looked like spoilt, bad tempered twunts despite producing moments of impressive football.

like others I've always been quite pleased to see Crawley do well, but after that show of thuggery that even Dyche would wince at, and the complete knobhead thugs on the station ramps, trying to mix it with the police, and letting off smoke cannisters on the bridge they have shot up my list of disliked teams

I hope the FA retrospectively issue a ban for the tackle on O’Riley, and we send Crawley the bill for his wages all the time he is out-which could be a while

I really liked Scott Lindsey, his backstory and their promotion.

But scummy from Williams tonight. The ball was gone, he knew what he was doing.

Awful ref. Should’ve been a red under current laws (intent doesn’t come into it). And a couple of other very early yellows would’ve sent a strong message.
