That using arrest figures and crime rates to defend the carnival is a flawed argument because the problem is the level of the serious violence. As I posted, over 23 million people attended EFL matches last season and none of them stabbed each other. So it is disproportionately violent in comparison to other events.

No it's bollocks. It's a Disneyland village for people who want to live in a city but want to live in a village.
I really hate that area of London, always have. Camden to the South, Barnet to the North. I'm feeling unwell thinking about it.

It's one of the most major capital cities in the world - of course folk with unlimited means flock to own property there. Doesn't make it a better to live in though. Millions prefer city life like london; millions prefer smaller places, rural life, living by the sea, etc. Personally I really love London but, now, way prefer living where i am right on the coast.

I hear Hamstead is now on the up and I take back everything I said about it.
People probably live in London because they come from there or work there, I mentioned people moving there for work earlier.
Do people move there but they work elsewhere?
I don’t know where TB lives but it’s been mentioned on here that his main business has an office in London, so I’m guessing he lives in the city he works in.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if he has a property in B & H where he also stays

The trope is that it is being policed inappropriately lightly. I showed that there is no evidence for this.
I agree that you can argue it is disproportionately violent on the the basis of the number of stabbings versus total attendance, compared with the numbers of stabbings by people watching football over the course of a year. And indeed the numbers of stabbings by people attending church over a year. Or worshiping at mosques over the course of 5 years. Or visiting libraries over the course of 10 years.

And most importantly, what do you propose should be done about it?

Hamstead is really underated.
And it's because of people like you that make SW London a much nicer place to live.

I was not the one to bring up avocado's in a notting hill carnival thread first.
Two tier will be banging up a few tomorrow after a major press conference, while wearing his 16,000 grand suit. Proper workman he is. Can anyone socialist be happy with him in charge of their party? And his consistent hypocrisy?

I think you don’t know Hampstead very well or at least our experience of Hampstead is very different.
I was born in London and spent my early childhood years living with my Grandparents in their house in Hampstead - even when my parents and us kids moved out to nr Bromley, every weekend was spent in Hampstead with the Grandparents. Donkey rides and ice cream on the Heath among my earliest memories. I visited frequently growing up and knew it well.
When I was older and working several days a week in London, I slept over in the Hampstead house that my Grandparents had left to my parents (and us kids) . As did other members of the family when ever visiting or working in London to save the commute from Brighton. Spent hours walking the Heath birdwatching, browsing old bookshops and eating out at some fantastic restaurants off the Finchley Road..
The area of ‘Hampstead’ is much more than the old village but Hampstead Village itself is neither a ‘fake inner city village’ (it dates back hundreds of years ) nor is it ‘bollocks’ or for the ‘nouveau riche’. It is genuinely a pleasant, leafy area of London steeped in history and culture. My family were not nouveau riche nor would we have spent so much of our lives living in a place that was ’bollocks’ - it’s not the cheapest area of London admittedly- probably on a par with West Dulwich where most of the family live now.
Back on topic - I spent years going to the Nottinghill Carnival as do my nieces now -I agree with @harry Wilson's tackle’s posts above - and the sentiment behind them.
Let’s not stoke up a climate of fear around Black/Brown urban street festivals as being particularly violent - over a million people from all over the World celebrate Afro-Caribbean diversity each year at the NH carnival with corresponding parties and events all over London - all of which are largely peaceful with a very tiny minority committing serious crime.
Calm down about the Notting Hill Carnival
There was recently a mass public party at which all sorts of offences were committed. As innocent attendees cut loose and jived, shadier actors took advantage. There was a burglary, a robbery, 19 drug offences, 26 acts of theft and no fewer than 30 acts of violence against individuals. There...

agreed, when I lived in Camden I worked predominately in Hampstead Garden Suburb’s
mainly for “interior designers” for wealthy clients with no idea, they liked the idea of “London” but wanted to be separate, elitist tw@ts the majority of them.
