The rules state that players under 21 years old, do not count towards the 25 limit.
So we really do not need to unload that many surely?

Edit: For the 2024/25 campaign, under-21 players have to be born on or after the 1st January 2003.

Gruda. Enciso, Mintah. Baleba, Don't count ?.

It's not about the technical rules for a 25 man squad and who is or isn't U21.

It is about having a manageable first team playing squad whether the individuals are U21 or not.

We ideally need it to be ~ 25-26 players, maybe 27 if we assess March as being a bit away from full 1st team duties.

Our playing squad is still somewhat large.

Its really not looking that bad imo.

Named Squad - 20

Bart
Steele
Pervis
Ferdi
Dunk
Webster
JPVH
Igor
Lamptey
Velts
O'Riley
Milner
Solly
WBG
Wieffer
Mitoma
Adingra
Welbs
Rutter
Pedro

U21s likely to stay - 6

Baleba
Ferguson
Minteh
Julio
Hinsh
Gruda

Will be very suprised if still here by end of window:

Rushworth - Loan
Moder
Ayari - loan
Sarmiento
Dahoud (not even listed on site squad list!)
ACD - loan

That leaves a strong 26 of which every single player is high standard and wouldnt weaken the side if picked.

Weir and Turns are both over 21 and surely will also be loaned/sold this window as well.
Sold, I think - Weir has had three seasons on loan in League1, and Turns has had two, mainly in League2. Probably (at least for now - they might be late developers/do a Gyokeres) found their level.
Although it was interesting that Weir, a midfielder, was played at CB in Japan - was this an experiment to see if he could do that (alleged) Hurzeler role of a third CB transitioning to midfield? Long shot, that, I think.
Ayari, I think, may stay at the Albion for now. Loan for Yalcouye definitely though, and ACD.........and quite a few other U21s (or last year's U21s).

After last season’s experience, we need as big as squad as possible , then we might have a chance in the cup competitions

Pretty certain we'll want more than two keepers! McGill did the job last year but he's out on loan so I'm assuming Rushworth will stick around this year

If Moder is going they better hurry up as no rumours anywhere. Feels like its worth keeping Ayari as insurance - every squad will need a few players who basically don't play but are there just in case...

Wonder if Cahill might be no 3 this season - Rushworth needs to be playing at a decent level so think he’ll be loaned out

I think you are almost there with that.

We’ll need another keeper but perhaps we can go with Fisher or Cahill from the U23s.

Like others believe, I think Ayari stays. He is a Hürzeler player because he has a bit of everything with that critical eye for goal and goal scoring runs. Because of circumstances, I think he is actually ahead of Hinshelwood in the midfield now.

The only question is centre back and full back.

I think Lamptey leaves. 100%. He has not signed a new contract, why would we let him play out his contract in the 1st team with his constant injuries? That said, he is going nowhere until Ferdi Kadıoğlu signs for us.

Ferdi and Joel at right back is strong. It gives Hürzeler plenty of options having two very different styles. You could actually say 3 styles with Hinshelwood in the mix.

Left back is a worry with Barco off but I think we sign Boscagli as a Veltman style backup to Estupiñán with Hinshelwood and Ferdi in the frame again as an inverted playmaker LBs or LWBs.

But it Boscagli is going to get enough minutes, he needs to be the left footed centre back playmaker. I think Igor will be back at Italy as his long passing and quick one touch passing seem quite some way behind Boscagli. Igor does not strike me as a Hürzeler player.

From this article:

Brighton have nine players that could leave on loan this week, including Sarmiento, Rushworth, O’Mahony and Yalcouye.

"Meanwhile, the club are open to offers for permanent moves for Mahmoud Dahoud (whose contract expires in 2027) and both Tariq Lamptey and Jakub Moder, who have entered the last year of their contracts."

Weir is an interesting one, because unless I missed something, he was due to be out of contract this past June.

He signed a 3-year deal when he joined in July 2020.
The club never reported it, but the FA's Agents Transactions Report showed that he signed an extended deal some time around July 2022. We can only guess at the contract length but presumably it was until June 2025.
