I agree you need subs but I just don’t see how we will be able to keep everyone happy. We had a crazy number of injuries and it was a freak situation. Since then we have added Gruda, Rutter and Minteh plus of course have Sarmiento back. I know we can’t assume no injuries but if we don’t get many then it will be tricky to keep everyone happy. I am hopeful we loan a couple more out rather than sell.

If all of them get fit then selecting four attackers from

Ferguson
Mitoma
March
Enciso
Sarmineto
Adingra
Minteh
Rutter
Gruda

Is not very easy.

And I am not including in that list the less attacking midfielders

I expect I have forgotten some.

City don’t have anything like that many players in and around the first team match day squad do they?

I agree you need subs but I just don’t see how we will be able to keep everyone happy. We had a crazy number of injuries and it was a freak situation. Since then we have added Gruda, Rutter and Minteh plus of course have Sarmiento back. I know we can’t assume no injuries but if we don’t get many then it will be tricky to keep everyone happy. I am hopeful we loan a couple more out rather than sell.

Or we can replace all 4 attackers on 70 minutes when we're winning comfortably, drawing or losing games.

Welbeck/Ferguson
Pedro/Rutter
Mitoma/Adingra
Minteh/Enciso

Leaving March (Left wing back cover?) , Sarmiento and Gruda (as much an AM as a winger) as injury cover/Cup games.

In practice these players can be rotated around to ensure they all get plenty of game time .
None of them are so well established that they are going to be throwing massive strops for not starting all games.

I think the jury is out on it being a "freak situation".
We weren't alone with this issue, which points to a more fundamental issue, than bad luck.

Extended injury time is having a big impact on players fitness.
The majority of this additional time is coming at a point where the game is more intense and players are prone to injury.

Being able to swap out all attackers on 70 minutes without impacting quality, is a shrewd move.

Players are getting used to the idea, that being an impact sub, is a crucial part of the squad

Well you shouldn't. They are midfielders.

However there is a much bigger debate around the number of midfielders in the squad.
We are unlikely to be swapping both of them out in every game.

We currently have

Weiffer
Milner
Baleba
WBG
Dahoud
Moder
Gruda
Hinshelwood
Ayari

I think we know that 2-3 of them are definitely surplus to requirements, but that leaves 6 competing for 2 starting places and 1 sub change per game.
Rotation in this area will be very difficult. Milner, Baleba and Hinsh have covered full back roles, but neither of them would see that as a viable long term role for them (and hopefully neither do the club).

Five reasons to let players go. Sell if we need to make money, loan if need to develop them, let them move near end of contract if they are a good servant with a hometown offer, squeeze every penny from the buyers if they go on strike, or get rid if they are a problem or just not good enough.

None of the above applies in Adingra's case

Having a couple too many players in the squad to give them each minutes if all are fit would be a silly reason to get rid of such an amazing talent, and a reason that will rapidly reverse before you know it. I expect to see Adingra on the pitch every single game this season if healthy.

Ferguson was run into the ground and lost confidence as a concequence, asides the fact RDZ Tic-tacs didn't suit him. Likewise Angingra was knackered from Feb on.

to compete top 10 and cups we need 2 teams.

You've made it sound a lot better, but it's still not how we (or probably anyone else) operate. Adingra is part of our plans. Of course there can come a time when we have to sell a player, but if we want to keep him I don't think Barber would want to give another club an idea of the amount needed. Arsenal made a reasonable bid for Caicedo, but we ended up selling him for about £45m more. Doing that becomes difficult if you just hand out a guide price to anyone interested. All IMO.

Bloom has gone to a lot of trouble and expense this summer to build a squad capable of challenging for Europe again. I can't believe he'd suddenly sell an important part of that unless the fee was stupid high. Adingra is only 22, is proven in the PL and in his national team. We won't ever compete with the top 8 clubs if we just sell them our players as soon as we start to look good.

Adingra's wages aren't above market rate. Chelsea have massive wage leeches who aren't in the squad, let alone on the bench. Our aim is not to build just a strong starting 11, it's to build a squad that can compete. Obviously Adingra is part of that squad.

This was said in jest but is it really that fanciful?

We've just spent all our Caicedo money and more on quality recruits. We are now so good that we could put out two XIs that would at least compete for a top 10 finish. (Adingra or Mitoma wide on the left? Fck me. Someone wake me.up)

And whisper it quietly, but with some luck with injuries, Liverpool in transition, Chelsea still a shit show and Man City possibly facing sanctions, I don't think it's all that fanciful. We'll know more after the Arsenal game, but if we deservedly take something from that one, we are going to be in the top four conversation.

As discussed a fair bit over recent weeks, I'd guess that our plan is to have our wingers give everything for the first 60/70 minutes, and then swap them for fresh ones. Having 5 subs available makes that possible, and would make it very hard for the opponents. If we do that, Adingra would get to play every game he's fit for.

Also with the amount of running our forward players are going to be expected to do when we play the high press the chances of anyone being ever present and not needing to be rotated out to give them a break from time to time is low. To be able to do that we need just as good options to come into the team. So strength in depth and players being able to cover a couple of positions is going to be highly important this season.
