Why has Tony spent so much money this transfer window? All the years he’s own the club he’s been very clever getting a huge bang for his buck. Why is he now spending such large sums or giving the club the green light to spend its treasure chest? Eighth year in the premier league, usually the big spending goes into the squad keeping you up.

Pipeline burst.

Many of these transfer targets will have been in the works for a while, and with the funds in hand, at the right prices as assessed by Barber and Bloom’s data, we’ve been able to get loads over the line at once.

It’s what they mean when they say “we’re always looking”. Business in January is extremely difficult, but a lot of clubs are needing to sell this summer to balance the books which accounts for several of our signings.

I’m just absolutely loving this transfer window, we’ve done what appears to be phenomenal business both in and out. £26m+ for Undav, for example, is outstanding.

Because we’ve sold for loads of profit and we will be cashing in on a few players before this window is out I’m sure… (Sima, Gilmour unfortunately, Undav was a lot of profit, Moder, maybe Adingra)

We have made a few highly priced sales, namely Caicedo, and need to spend otherwise it gets taken by the taxman! Back in the day that was how Liverpool, for one, kept the tax bill down. I am talking 70s here for the youngsters.

I think it's the second stage of a build process. To get to it Albion had to by raw talent and hope to develop it. They still do that, but now have the resource to spend more on talent a level on.

I think the second stage was to become an Everton. A team that is always in the top flight with only the odd flirtation with relegation. Only a better Everton.

Incredible times.

Squad needed a quality re-build and we were financially in a good position, next 2-3 windows will probably be back to previous levels, think the squad is looking powerful in pretty much every position.

Bloom and Barber have always said we'll buy when we find the players we need within the defined cost structure, it just takes time and the availability stars have to align. It takes patience (waiting for the right player), resolve (not to break our structure), nous (selling at the right price) and ingenuity (a brilliant system helping us find the right targets). All this doesn't guarantee success, of course, but it feels great right now!

Would buying at the right time and buying at the right price have anything to do with it? Might be quite a good policy if the signs point the right way. Perhaps they sometimes do?

Albion have enough carried-forward losses to ensure there's no tax due for the current year, regardless of spending.
