Leeds - but not the dirty bit
In light of the recent rescue of a boat full of would be immigrants off the south coast, how would people on the south east coast feel if this becomes more commonplace ?

That's why 150 more border force are being employed to patrol the waters. It's likely to be more prevalent in Kent which is nearer the continent. The weather in the Channel isn't condusive to rubber dinghies traversing 70 odd miles of busy waterways.

No it's not fishing. With the borders being reasonably effectively policed at the main ports, could this be the next phase. 2 British people on boat - possibly making a mint transporting illegal immigrants.
Short dash across the channel and then cruise along coast and land on the beaches possibly ?

I do struggle to fathom why they're so desperate to get to our overcrowded island that they'll take such risks.

Really ?
The UK has the widespread reputation of being the land of milk and honey for immigrants. Housing, benefits, services, asylum. We sort these people out.

On the Border

This may have been in jest but is a real possible solution. Get the pensioners out with their flasks and sandwiches and get them to sit on the sea front deckchairs looking out for any boats. If they see anything ring the authorities.

The only downside that I can see is that they may nod off in the sun.

Because you don't realise how good we have it compared to most of the rest of the world? The fact they're willing to die for it would suggest what they're leaving is pretty atrocious.

Now, the south coast is never going to resemble the beaches of Greece, but I am surprised by the blasé attitude displayed by the majority of posters so far.
