I think what is much more important, is what SHOULD the role of a Moderator be...?

Social media today is an almost uncontrollable beast......sadly.

I can't help but feel if a Moderator cannot curb his/her personal temper, his/her personal political leanings, his/her determination to enforce their opinion upon you or indeed his/her personal leanings on who is and who isn't a suitable player/manager/ owner regarding the Albion, he or she, should step down from being a Moderator. Can I emphasise here the part " cannot curb his/her personal...etc etc'.

Given the fragile state of what appears to me, to be prevalent in so many posters, a degree ( not academic) of mental/anxiety difficulties, I no longer think that the choice of Moderator should be on their capability alone of how up to date they are with technology. Some sort of ability to 'read between the lines' would be preferable.

I have fallen foul of one particular Moderator on here fairly recently. Given time to reflect, I don't feel the offensive time so badly. However, recently, there has been a mob-handed group, quite determined to ridicule a few posters who were unhappy with our present manager just a few weeks ago and had expressed their opinion....The ridicule is still happening, albeit to a lesser extent . One of those people who thought our present manager should be replaced was Seagullwedgee. It was one of his last posts before he decided, tragically to end his life. I'm not blaming anyone here at all (far from it ), but it CAN remind us all of the power of the written word, which CAN in some aspects affect some people deeply. On this basis, I hope Bozza chooses any future Moderators with a view to being able to maybe sit back a bit from so much of the nonsense/ tripe/passionate/insulting/ political and 'sometimes' thoughtful posts on here without getting embroiled in them on a personal level.

There will always be dickheads/ trolls / argumentative / stupid and bright posters on here. The task of a good Moderator is to sort the wheat from the chaff without bias. If they can't do that, then they should step down.

I bear no ill-will to ANY Moderator with this post.

@Guinness Boy can be a bit, errm, forward in his posting. Which sometimes I'm a bit 'steady on mate' about. But having known him for 35 years in real life, and Lady Guinesss, it's hard to be irritated by anything he does.

He's actually a very rational, considerate, and soft, kind hearted person in real life. That's all true, but I only posted it because he might not like me saying it.

He's a very good cook too.
Oh so you’re saying he’s a keyboard warrior then? 😉

The 'problem' – if that's what it is – is that mods are posters too, so therefore have the same 'right' as any other poster to voice whatever opinions they want. Any Mod worth their salt should be able to act with either 'hat' on without repercussions. So that means acting as a mod when required, but also being allowed the freedom to post as any other mere non-mod NSCer.

I agree that things become compromised when a moderator can't be objective in a situation that needs moderation because of a personal issue with the poster that needs moderating, but I've not seen that side of any of the mods, so couldn't comment...

I think it depends on how we interpret that. I guess we are all keyboard warriors in a way. My policy is to never personally abuse or insult anyone. Beyond that, there are no rules. Because I think that covers good practice.

Well, one of the moderators quite openly admitted to exactly that just a few weeks ago - and yet continues to be a moderator.

The ignore feature has long been weaponised. Seems its used primarily to let the ignored poster know they have been ignored, as a perceived slight on them.

Ironically and particularly, by the most obnoxious, arrogant, unfunny and ignorant **** on NSC. 😉

Is it? I have no idea if I am ignore by anyone, wouldn’t know how to find out and couldn’t give a rats; arse if I am. :ROFLMAO:

You can rest assured knowing that if you didn't meet the superior standards of NSCs very own self opinionated Starmerite, you and others would very much have been made aware. :giggle:

Well, over there, there's friends of mine
What can I say? I've known 'em for a long long time
And, yeah, they might overstep the line
But you just cannot get angry in the same way
No, not in the same way
Said, not in the same way
Oh no, oh no no

But I'm not a Starmerite and I'm quite self effacing. The person I rip the shit out of most is myself. I've not been made aware of owt.

I don't call people ignorant ****s either. The use of which does make this thread a little circular.

Of course not. And I never thought we should ban him when he was @Right Brain Ronnie or @Mouldy Boots either
I wish we could have a list of previously banned poster former names, and perhaps current ones too with more than one account (that's just weird).

It'd be like naming countries and their former handle.

I'm assuming you mean Watford Zero.

A poster who has dominated a few threads on this forum with an obsession of not just pointing out his own point of view, but just HAS to ridicule and mock anyone and everyone who disagrees with him.

I live in France and of course am a Remainer. Watford Zero came as close as anyone to make me think , if Remainers are like him, I don't want to be one of them. A horrible individual and poster.

I don't know who was who. But I do know that a person who is now was often someone who we knew otherwise. But since they never say who they were, or indeed who they were before that, we often don't know who is who. I have trouble remembering who I am anyway.

That's ok @Eeyore, my comments obviously weren't regarding yourself and yes I find you one of the more self effacing types :giggle:

Yes, I think it's fair to say that someone who chooses to ignore views that differ or contrast to that of his / her own on a regular basis, making a show of ignoring other opinion often in arrogant manner, may be a little ignorant. Personally speaking of course. ;)

Have you seen the state of Twitter recently?
I don't have twitter. Neither do I particularly care about twitter. It is a global phenomenon and like much social media, is out of control.

NSC is my "go to" as an Albion supporter for now, going on for 61 years of my life ( and I'm older than that !). These days , I can only physically watch the Albion 'live' maybe 7-8 a season.

I read this forum a lot. It is my lifeline for all things 'The Albion'. Sometimes, I have to walk away when I see how it is going. Now we are in the Premier League, the number of 'interested' posters has obviously grown....many with different opinions and perhaps more importantly...different agendas.

I do see the mockery of some on here. I don't care for it. Humiliation is not a nice strait. It's cheap and pathetic. I will fight back ( as you well know) if you taunt me enough. And I will be abusive in response. ( again, as you well know ). The role of a good Moderator is far more complex today. I understand that.

You are welcome to your grandiose position on here. Please don't abuse it. It matters.

I have had quite 'lively' discussions with the various mods on here both on the main board and through PMs. There's some I like more than others, but I am aware that they bounce ideas off of one another, particularly when they are aware they are more to 'one side' of a discussion and get balance from the other.

As in your earlier post, you obviously have very strong ideas about how things should be moderated. It's very easy to knock them and point out what's wrong, but if you ever take responsibility for setting up a forum yourself and then and place good moderators into those 'grandiose positions' as well as @Bozza, you would certainly get my vote of appreciation.
