I know there have been plenty of 'suggest a book' threads but what are your top five books EVER?

For me?

1. Awaydays by Kevin Sampson.
2. The way we wore by Robert Elms.
3. Diceman by Luke Reinhert.
4. Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell.
5. The Rum Diaries by Hunter S Thompson.

Bubbling under: The Greatest Football you never saw by Paolo Hewitt and Paul McGuigan.

That's bollocks, the greatest Mr Man is without a doubt Mr Nonsense.
The man is off his FACE!

I don't do drugs so can't quite get into Mr Nonsense, gave up after page 4. Mr Nosey, however had me intrigued wanting to know more about him and his life, I'd like to see more about what happens in his life

Interesting to see that a few children's books are in peoples lists. For me it is down to the fact that I used to love reading when younger. I have a friend who is a head teacher at a primary school. She tells me that some children arrive at the school not even knowing which way up a book goes.

My soon-to-be 2 year old already has books that he loves, books that he hates and ones that he can live with. He will sit and read (or at least look through the book as though he is reading it) by himself for ages.

I try and buy him new books every week since for me it is important that he grows up not just knowing how to read but also enjoying reading.
