What DO they teach them at schools??

Mrs Coach

aka Jesus H. Woman
Helped out in Biggest Baby Coach's class today. They're studying WW2 and were colouring in the flags of the warring countries.
We chatted about what the symbols on the flags were - but when we got to the German one I said "that bad symbol was called the swastika - does anyone know what it represented?" (thinking they would know that Hitler was in the Nazi party)
One little boy put his hand up and said "Good Luck?"
..........
I think maybe he related it to a four leaf clover......
I hope so anyway!!!!.......

The swastika (from Sanskrit स्वस्तिक svastika, from su "well", and asti "being", thus "good fortune" or "well-being").

Your so right. Perhaps he was just very very clever.

Actually some British planes during the First World War had a swastika on the fuselage for good luck.

Les - is that for real, or are you winding me up??!!

Seriously, its from Wikipedia. I believe the Swastika was originally a Hindu symbol and thats what it meant.

Les does indeed speak the truth.

It was/is a Hindu symbol of peace that the Nazis bastardized.

Indeed. The Indian High Commission building in Aldwych has swatstikas carved on its side.

BHA - you're kidding?!

No, seriously, as a spotty child I was very into warplanes and history and I was a bit surprised when I saw a picture of one such plane.
