The whole concert videoing thing is odd to me, I usually video 20 seconds or so of a song that means a lot to me and send it to someone who shares that meaning. I never watch them again though. My wife often watches videos she has taken on the way home but seemingly never again.

Clearly there are always loads of people videoing so do people actually watch their videos after the event?

It's a bit like taking vidoes and pictures at football matches (although I do enjoy Ronald's stuff)

I used to take one picture at each match for my collection to look back on. But videoing and taking a bunch of snaps- I'm there to enjoy the game.

Do any of the ****s that do this ever watch any of it?

If they do it only makes it worse.

Stay at home.

Occasional recording of part of a loved song, just for me to watch again.

When recording, I’m conscious not to block the view of anyone behind me.

Just totted up the footage from the last gig, 4 minutes out of a 2 to 2.5 hours set.

HONESTLY

This is my favourite song

I better get my phone out

Heaven forbid that I would totally commit to the moment of something I love being performed for me.... I better get a video of it that I might watch on my phone twice?

Really?

One of my mates got his phone out at a Bob Mould gig a few years ago during "Hardly Getting Over It"

none of us have spoken to him since without calling him Instagram twat.

I literally take one photo of each gig. That’s it. No video. Don’t have a huge issue with those that do as long as it does not get in my way. I do hate people who talk during gigs though.

I saw New Oder last weekend and was accosted by a drunk work colleague who found me by shouting my name while walking through the crowd (I foolishly told him roughly where I was). he then proceeded to talk shit at me for about 5 songs (including True Faith, Blue Monday and Bizarre Love Triangle and a rare airing of vanishing Point). Given that the first few songs suffered because of sound problems (Transmission, Age of consent, crystal and Ceremony) The concert was not great.

One of the few times I wish I was ruder and had it in me to tell people to just get f***ed and leave me alone.

This sounds crap. Ruined a bunch of classics. If it’s the general public at least you can move away from them. As an aside, seeing New Order play True Faith live is one of life’s luxuries.

I take 'clips' just for myself & whoever I've gone with. Went with my yoofs to see FBS the other year. I let my youngest film the 1st minute or so, then made him put his phone away & 'feel it' rather than 'film it'. He was under strict instructions not to hold his phone in the air as well. We're going to Carl Cox On The Beach & I'll make him do the same again.
I've got shed loads of clips & photos from Brighton matches, Wembley, Europa League matches, just the beginning & end though. I think I did get out the phone for the penalties at Wembley but my phone was underneath my eye line. My eyes were watching & my phone was basically taking random pics.
It's not a social media thing for me as it doesn't get posted there, it's a digital family photo album that doesn't take 2 weeks to send to Truprint & get back blur. Most pics are blur but I can delete them & it hasn't cost me anything.
Someone on here uses pretty much the same pic I took at Wembley for their profile pic. They took the pic for the same reason I did, it wasn't an everyday thing.

I don’t get it, but then a gig crowd these days is frequently just a sea of phones being held aloft, so I’m clearly in the minority.

For work reasons, we were studying that Sphere thing in Las Vegas, to se how it does immersive experiences - the whole idea is you’re meant to be so surrounded by a vast 360 degrees of visual content it’s like being in a totally different world, and takes your breath away kinda thing.

YouTube had clips of a U2 concert which had been specifically created for just that. And you could see most of the audience holding up their phones, to experience and film it on a tiny six inch screen.

90% of the (not too many) concerts I go to are when my friends are playing and I'm always tasked with recording it... so went with "I take them and send them to friends". It hurts.
