I know there was betamax and VHS but I am almost certain there was another format around 1981.

It was used in the schools at the time and my dad managed to aquire one around 1982.

What was this format called ?

And there was also some kind of lazer disc thing going round too. the discs were about the size of an LP

You could record on both sides of the tapes with V2000, like audio cassettes.
