The term "keep the shirt" no longer applicable

Used to be when the team wore 1 through 11. If you kept the shirt you were still in the team.

Now each player has his own number it is no longer applicable.

Thought I should share that with you.

And, in addition to your shocking revalation, I can reveal that footballers nowadays get a new shirt every match (sometimes even two).

So, even if the numbers 1-11 were still used, it would not actually be the same shirt.

I am astounded by the shocking use of this clearly misleading phrase on Southern Counties Radio. I shall be complaining to the BBC posthaste.
