One happened to venture into a pub this evening and it stank of boiled cabbage, so much so that it reminded one of school dinners.
Obviously this is not desirable of an alehouse - so what smells would NSCers like?
Me:
70% tobacco smoke
20% alcohol/spilt drinks
5% urine
3% clunge
1% BO
0.5% Cleaning fluid
0.25% MaryJ
0.25% Claret

Beer, fags, farts, piss, cheap perfume/ aftershave that's what a great British pub should smell of .
Even being a non smoker I miss the smell of fags in a pub !!!!

Over there
As a child that was taken to pubs in the late 70's and through the 80's all I can remember is the smell of tobacco. So much so that when it was raining or freezing cold and the doors were shut you could hardly see your hand in front of your face and your eyes and throat would sting. I certainly don't miss those days.

The pub I use pre match smells of burning log fires, friendly warmth from the staff, and bloody good food, oh, and good English Ale.

Perfick.
