It's cup game in a mickey mouse competition against a poor leageu 2 side so no excuse for not experimenting with more impetus on attacking:

Chaignau

El-Abd McShane Butters Reid

Carole Hammond Nicolas Knight

Turienzo CKR

Yes that team would probably get hammered against Preston but why not give some people (particularly the attacking players) a chance to show what they can do.

Chaignau
Dodd McShane Tank El-Abd?
Carole Hammond Oatway Jarret
Knighty CKR

I feel we need to keep playing Knight and CKR upfront, in order to get them to form a strong bond, and start scoring god damn it!

I'd try:-

No shag

El Abd McShane Butters Dodd

Reid Chippy Hammond
or Oatway
Carole Jarrett

El Turi Leon

Either that or I'd play Hart and see how Carole fairs on the left.
Chippy or oatway to start in the middle.

Got the base of a decent team there, just need to sign 9 new players. :lolol:

-------Chiagneau------
Reid--McShane--El-Abd--Rents (if he's fit, thought I read he's injured)
Carole--Nicolas--Hammond--Jarrett
---------Knight---Hart

Subs:
Kazim-Richards
Robinson
Carpenter
Turienzo
Dodd

No need for a keeper on the bench.

That means playing 4-4-2, with no more of that negative, over-cautious 4-5-1 crap.

Why oh why do people end up scapegoating set tactical formations?

It's the PARTICULAR MIX of individuals that makes formations work or not, ie. the players picked to make it work and the players put on the pitch to oppose them. There are so many variables that a manager has to think about before selecting his best team and formation, to just rule out one tactical system as a principle is utterly daft!

Ah well, thank heavens Chelsea didn't get anywhere last season with that boring, negative 4-5-1 :lolol:

It'd be nice to be seeing a new player for the left back possition, but with who we have in the squad at the moment this is what i'd go with.
It's initially a 4-4-2. But could easily be made into a 4-3-1-2 with CKR or Knight moving behind the front two or a 4-2-4 with them both moving up, (just thumping the thing forward!) It could even work as a 3-5-2 with Reid moving in to right midfield.
I think MM needs to have a little rethink, the squad has goals in it and lets face it i'm sure most of us don't care if we are letting in 3 goals a match as long as we are scoring 4!

At work - probably
I think we need to experiment and, like reading, play to our strengths, ie) we have several pacey players who can play on the wing....why don't we play them??? Look at Reading top of the league with Hunt, Convey, Oster and Little, all wingers and all playing a big part.

I'd go for:-

GK Chavigneau
RB Hart (or Reid)
LB Rents if fit
CB McShane
CB El Abd (Rest Dodds & Butters)
RW Carole
CM Hammond
CM Nicolas (or Reid)
LM Jarrett (or Knight)
CF Robinson (or Knight)
CF CKR (Or Turienzo)

Subs: McCammon
Elphick
Cox
and two of the others that were possibles in the main lineup

We're not turning into Arsenal by any chance, are we??

Apparently we can afford their wages but not English midfielders.
