Weather forecast not looking too good this week - that might be to our advantage though.
Hope to catch some of this on friday afternoon.

Notts have been told not to pick Sidebottom according to BBC as he will be in the squad for 4th Test. Double good news, he wont play against us and would be a great pick Flintoff's not fit (which he quite clearly isn't)

But Sussex, who already have three specialist slow bowlers on the staff and are keen to bring leg spinner Piyush Chawla back to Hove next season, are not interested according to Robinson.

Let's hope this is true!

Still keeping faith with Goodwin then (sigh).

Sussex rule out move for Batty

Coach Mark Robinson has dismissed speculation linking Sussex with former England bowler Gareth Batty.

The 31-year-old off-spinner, who played seven Tests and seven ODIs between 2002-06, has been told he can leave Worcestershire despite having another year left on his contract and a host of counties are in the hunt for his signature.

But Sussex, who already have three specialist slow bowlers on the staff and are keen to bring leg spinner Piyush Chawla back to Hove next season, are not interested according to Robinson.

He said: “I can’t understand why we have been linked with a spinner. We have had no contact with him at all and any spare budget we have is going to go on seamers.”

With counties now allowed to make 28-day approaches to their rivals to talk to players it is open season with regard to possible moves.

Among the other names linked with Sussex in recent weeks are Simon Jones, who is also leaving New Road after two injury-plagued seasons, and Warwickshire seamer Naqaash Tahir.

Meanwhile Sussex could give a Championship debut to South African fast bowler Pepler Sandri in today’s game against Nottinghamshire at Horsham (11am).

Sandri is in the squad because Yasir Arafat has been left out after injuring the index finger on his right bowling hand when he was hit in the nets at Durham earlier this week.

The finger is not broken but with a heavy workload of Championship and one-day cricket ahead, Sussex have opted to let him rest.

Sandri made a sensational start to his Sussex career by taking three top-order Australian wickets at Hove in June and the 26-year-old is desperate for further opportunities.

Robinson added: “Horsham is normally a good wicket but it can swing and it can go flat. Pepler gets bounce and he has got some pace. The way he bowls he is always liable to be a bit expensive but he has got something about him and can makes things happen. If he does play he will give us something new.”

Robin Martin-Jenkins is poised to return on his home ground after missing the last two Championship games and left-arm spinner Tom Smith is also included in a 13-man squad.

Nottinghamshire are without Ryan Sidebottom after his call-up to England’s squad for the fourth Test but seamer Charlie Shreck and batsman Mark Wagh are both available after injury.

Sussex (from): Nash, Yardy, Joyce, Goodwin, Hopkinson, Wright, Hodd, Martin-Jenkins, Rayner, Collymore, Sandri, T.Smith, Lewry.

Nottinghamshire (from): Newman, Wagh, Wood, Voges, Brown, Patel, Read, Ealham, Adams, Pattinson, Shreck, Fletcher, Franks.
