it had a CENTRAL christian theme, and the idea was to draw more ethnic communities into the new shopping center by including elements of their faiths to increase profits. I dont have to argue against your argument. There are reams and reams of articles, statements (from the council) on the internet. You choose to ignore them and make up some ridiculous nonesense about British culture being devalued etc.
If you REALLY consider this the breakdown of British culture, then really, you need to seek some sort of help.

I am so sorry that you feel so oppressed and put upon by the jackboot of political correctness, but the big TRUTH here is that most of us are going to spend St Georges day watching the Albion (not Chelsea) having a few beers and enjoying the company of our friends. You seem hell bent on finding something to get offended about, even if it is a 13 year old story on a BBC website. WTF is your problem? Plenty of ENGLISH people seem to get on with their lives without a tremendous burden of guilt, even if we do have our heads stuck in the sand.

where? the bbc news story which is based on critisism from a few CoE chaps? doesnt prove anything other the stuffy old codger get their knickers in a twist.

obviously you never read the final paragraphs where the council spokeman says the promotional material includes christmas imagery. The wiki tells us it was extended in 1998 (the bbc report doesnt mention it was the second year of the event) to cover "Hallowe'en; Bonfire Night; Diwali; Ramadan and Eid; Hanukkah; Advent, Christmas, and Boxing Day; New Year's Eve; and Chinese New Year.". or the winter. what could they call that? a winter festival maybe?

you still havent explained why a incident at chritsmas 13 years ago makes you feel guilty about celerbrating St Georges day.
