Not actually correct as possession stats at this level are estimated by free kicks, corners, shots, etc and aren't actually based on possession itself.

I've always thought that possession stats are a complete and utter waste of time.

It's putting the ball in the back of the net that counts.

Well we had plenty of possession on Saturday, especially in the 2nd half, but we couldn't score.

It's what you do with it that counts.

You might only have 10% of possession and score.

The only team I've seen do that, and win, is the old Wimbledon back in the late 90's. True long ball game (wasn't quite 10% but you get the idea)

Possession is the key. Those stats make good reading so far, especially away from home.

If you have possession the other side cannot score. According to the % football manual, it is more of defensive game. i.e. not so good when you are losing 0-1.

Is that the same southampton side that don't play possession football according to most on here?

The quality of the play when in possession is what counts (whether you can tire out the other side, pull them out of shape, draw fouls and create goal scoring opportunities), not necessarily the quantity.

Indeed but we also have the best goal difference.
